How many people on the floor for a private lesson?

I take private lessons in the large studio in NY, and often there are 4- 5 couples on the floor in small room. The lessons cost about $85 for 55 minutes. Very crowed How are your private lessons?

There's usually around 20 private lessons going on at the same time. Floorcraft can get really tricky.

Wow, my school has only one couple having a private lesson, sometimes there may be others practicing, but generally we are on our own. I do know of studios that do that also and I think it is rude to the customers, as who gets preference on the music?

Depends on time of day at my studio. That's part of the reason I try to take lessons during my lunch break (plus it keeps me from staying downtown too late, which makes for a long day). During the day, generally it will just be me taking a lesson. Occasionally one other proam couple dancing, and some of the pros working on whatever they happen to neeed to work on at the time. This generally lets pro (or buddy teacher) and I have pretty good control of the music, and less worries about floorcraft. THough right now, I could probably use the extra floorcraft work. :)

Well, here in Albany, New York we are lucky to have instructors of a caliber that you usually only find in large cities and a dance floor, at the studio, that is near competition size (about 5 feet short on the short line). Nonetheless, during the busiest times (weekday evenings) their can be all 8 instructors teaching with about 10 - 20 people on the floor (including those couples that are practicing). Our studio owner often reminds us that many studios are just as busy with a floors half the size.

Worst case - 3 instructors plus 3 couples. I'll have to get an estimate of the floor space in square feet. There's usually plenty of room but the owner controls the sound system, so I might find myself tangoing to a waltz if he's teaching. Other instructors use small iPod set-ups but they can get drowned out by the main system.

I take lessons in NYC studio too. And sometimes it did happen like 4 or 5 couples on the floor, especially when visiting English coaches in town the same time. Our lessons are like $95 for 45 minutes and sometimes $225-$245 per 45 minutes from any visiting English coahes, so we try to book like Saturday morning when less crowded. yes Floorcraft does gets tricky weekday nights, usually teachers who teach private lessons take turn to use music.

This past Saturday, there were about 10 couples on the floor. It was definitely a little overcrowded for my liking...but heck, probably much like being on the competition floor. Every time we moved to start, suddenly there was another couple right smack in our LOD. Normally it's not that bad...I think there is a showcase coming up and people are cramming.

Anywhere between one (just me and my teacher in the middle of a work day) and so many that I don't even bother to count (on a Saturday afternoon, or in the evening during the week).

Normally in the evening, it was pretty crowded. We started taking 2 hours of lessons at 8:00 PM and 9:00 PM, because it was not crowded at the 9:00 PM session. We would work on spot dances in the 8:00 PM lesson and smooth dances at 9:00 PM. With each couple doing different dances, I found it more difficult to navigate than the social dance floor.
