How much dance is required in a movie

A dance movie to me ought to have the development of dancing as part of the character development of the proponent(s). Just like a basketball movie (like Hoosiers) focuses on basketball as a metaphor for life, I would like to see dance as a tool to learn about life as well in a dance movie.

This is my take too. It's not the amount of dancing, it's how central dance is to the story.

Now, here's a question. Is The Full Monty a dance movie? It's about down-and-out guys doing a striptease, not dancing, but I still tend to think of it as a dance movie... After all, the striptease show was very much a dance performance, the film definitely portrays "development of dancing as part of the character development of the proponents", and the job centre scene was a classic dance movie moment, quite similar to the restroom scene in "Shall We Dance?"...
Besides, for a man raised in a macho environment where dancing is considered gay, taking up dancing must take as much courage as stripping on stage (Billy Elliot was along this theme).
