How much does dancing affect your (non-dance) life?

Just curious. I'm working with a realtor in my new town, looking at houses and neighborhoods. I've narrowed it down to one choice, I think. The one with hardwood floors in the den and family room, so I can practice dancing there. Actually, I'm already thinking mirrors on the den walls will be my first addition.

And that got me thinking. When you dance, things that might not seem dance-related suddenly become dance-related. Things like shopping for a house -- hardwood floors and proximity to dance studios are playing into my decision, for sure.

So here's a question for you. Has your dance "habit" played a role in your seemingly non-dance life? You know. Things like which food to eat, which town to live in ... Oops. I just thought of a ton of examples from my own life, so I'll shut up now. Your turn. Anyone?

Ummm, does my Ph.D. dissertation topic, on top of which the rest of my academic career will be built, count?

Well, just last month I upgraded the stereo system in my truck, adding lots of watts and speakers and subwoofers in case we get the need for a car dance or two . . . also we have a music system in every room in house in case we get the urge to dance in every room in the house . . . furthermore we built a cushioned dance floor in our third car garage just in case we felt like dancing the night away . . . .so, in answer to your question . . . the answer is "no," it doesn't play a part in our seemingly non-dance life.

Ditto on house (ie, condo) hunting for me. It's down to two places that are fairly comparable in price and what they basically have to offer.

One place has laminated flooring in the kitchen/dining room, like what my Lindy instructor laid down in his garage. However, it's about 5 miles out of the way from Lindy classes and venues up a freeway known for being congested. It is closer to a WCS/country dance club I take some lessons at, but going there from work is just as close.

The other place has tile flooring, but it's more centrally located (within a few miles of our house). The bummer is that it's all-electric.

What really got me thinking about the second one was location and the thought of the drive out to the venues.

You wrote the most about this one . . . which tells me, this is the one for you.

-Take more WCS classes . . .
-Leave a few minutes earlier for the Lindy classes . . .
-Become a member of the country club . . .
-Practice more on your own laminated dance floor . . .
-Stay close to work . . .
-5 miles? (I understand though what that can be like in congested traffic!) I build freeways, so it's an important thing to me . . .

Friends - Do they dance too?
Shopping - "Can I wear this dancing?"
Hair cut - I want it to swing when I swing.
Money - Goes without saying where it goes!
Exercise - Staying in shape to dance is a great motivator for the daily run.
Diet - Wish I could stay that it helps me skip the extra scoop of ice cream or the burger and french fries, but, alas, it doesn't.

Who else is bored on a Friday afternoon at work?

Bored? More like frenetic!! I'm upgrading pcs, getting odd off the wall requests, excited about up performance today evening....

Friends -- what non-dance friends? Oh yeah. Those folks I haven't talked to in three years. Wonder if they started dancing yet?
Shopping -- It has to swish just right when I spin.
Hair cut -- actually extensions, to fit in a bun when I dance.
Money -- what money? All spent on dancing.
exercise -- yoga. For dancing of course.
Diet -- gotta carb up. I'm going dancing.

I associate with friends that dance more then friends that don't.

I look forward to having a room in a house where I can dance.

I want to have a dance floor big enough at a wedding some day to invite all my dance friends.

I budget money for dance.

I have started my pushups and situps, and soon will start my weight training again because of my desire for better upper body endurance for maintaining frame for comps and social events.

I hope to have an SO that dances or wants to learn next time.

Sheesh ... where does my dance life not impact my non-dance life. ;)

Yeah, in that I hardly ever go to the gym or work out at all anymore because I spend a lot of evenings taking lessons and/or dancing. Also, despite my intentions, I often end up staying out late in the middle of the week and am pretty wrecked for work the next day.

So basically, dancing has made me out-of-shape and sleep-deprived. But I keep going.

I think dancing affects everything I do lately! In a positive way :)

I love these...

Espescially the shopping and exercise ones!
Doesnt matter how much I may love something in the shop or what sort of bargain it is, I wont buy it unless I can dance in it.
My wardrobe actually consists of my "dance clothes" which is everything I have bought since I started dancing and my "non-dance clothes" which is everything before

And the excercise..I utterly despise stomach crunches..hate them. But I do them, I motivate myself by reminding myself of my teachers words "a strong stomach makes a nice frame"

remodeled the downstairs and put in a dance studio.

select regular everyday shoes on "dancability" level.

have a pair of dance shoes at home, in both cars, and at work... just incase. :D

basing all vacation getaways on number of dance venues that are in the area.

I think my non-dance life would be the same without dancing. About the only difference would be what I would do on what are my dance nights which generally are Fridays and Saturdays since all other activites are during the day.
