particularly for a big comp that you go to every year....and does it matter depending upon what level you dance or the amt of progress you've made btwn years....and how hip you are to current styles? presuming that money was only moderately an issue

I'm a wrong person to ask. I like to change frequently... as long as it doesn't hurt financially...

There seems to be a crossing point. When you first getting going, there is a "dress recognition" factor. You know... you're watching that great couple in the red dress from Embassy or whatever. But soon after, your audience is going to be watching to see what you show up in next.

I think if money isn't an issue, it's nice to change dresses as often. when i watch competitions, I always look at the dresses. It's part of the show/performance.

I usually like to wear a dress 2-3 times if the dress really looks good on me; otherwise, I would love to get new dresses all the time if money isn't a factor.
Still remember those high school days, where you only wear each of your prom dress once? Now, if and only if ballgowns are as expensive.......

Supposedly, if you're able to sell your dresses back, you should be able to get new ones every 2-3 comps. But the higher you are in level and comp size, the more you have to wear new dresses every time.

I'm a dress fiend, and so I have to make myself wear a dress three times or else I'd do nothing but sew new dresses for every single comp. And since I'm an odd size for a ballroom dancer, they aren't easy for me to get rid of. I think at one point I had 12 dresses, but I managed to sell half of them.

financially isnt a huge factor but it is a factor...i mean my dresses are 3000 a pop...so how do you all navigate tht? my smooth dress has been to 3 comps and my standard to two....and after the next two comps, feb and april, I will be reapeating comps in them...and I am wondering at the wisdom of that...are there pros and cons.......etc....anyhow, am especially thinking I shoulndt go back to ohio in the same thing...but does anyone really care besides me ....really? I wonder...

yea but I don't/can't...any ideas?
Would you consider a resale or a rental? We have a dance store near us that rents mostly used costumes and they are mostly Dore. Do you have anything like that near you? I tried on about six latins the other day and they were all beautiful and heavily stoned. Dore has a lot of resales on their website. I understand she will take your dress toward credit for a new one. I also have tried some from rhythmic rentals. Of course you always wonder if people who owned or rented the same dress might be at your comp- at least I do!

I would prefer to buy new....and wouldn't want to neccessarily sell the ones I have yet...in case I go somewhere where they are still relatively useful

I am assuming that she only takes Dore dresses back for resale, right?
Please let me know.
