I meant to post this anecdote before now.
For Christmas this year, my 18yo daughter handwrote me a long letter, giving examples of all the things I've done and do that make me a "good mom" in her eyes.* She also gave me an envelope full of hand-written "coupons," good for traditional things such as "mom/daughter dinner night" but also more personalized items, like "watch one of your dance videos with you" (I got 3 of those). Hahahahaha! Clearly, we are making progress!
*Because she knows that of the 5 Love Languages, number 1 on my list is "Words of Affirmation." (Actually, it's tied with "Acts of Service" for first place.)
