How to encourage my new latin partner also to dance standard

Two partners in the same group class?! Just imagine all the drama!!! From my prior experience, 2 partners is definitely worse than 1, and most likely even worse than no partner at all :)
I'm sorry to hear this about your previous experience, and I hope it's not a universal truth. Surely, if you're mature and reasonable and don't foment drama, it might be possible to find two partners who are the same?

I wouldn’t see a problem with it. If you are a mature and reasonable person who doesn’t create drama I don’t see why you can’t find two dance partners who are similar.

In the dance circles I’ve known it’s pretty common to form short-term partnerships for specific things. Like if there’s a showcase or competition or maybe a specific class. Even teaching couples will sometimes form separate partnerships while they continue to teach together.
Ultimately you’ll either need two partners or stick to Latin only. So you may as well try out two partners now while things are new.

Was your previous partner also a romantic relationship? I can see having two partners can be an issue in that circumstance because the girlfriend/wife/significant other might interpret the dance aspect as being somehow also "dating". That would technically be her problem but it might not be fixable by you.

If neither is a girlfriend/wife/other you might find it easier to deal with different dance partners.

I know I'm coming into this conversation a little late but here is my 2 cents -

Just talk to her! --- I mean like actually say what is on your mind. Be forward and direct so there isn't any chance of it being misinterpreted. You aren't doing either one of you an favours by not just coming out with it. If she doesn't want to dance ballroom then no problem. Find another partner for ballroom.

That said, I have no idea how you could want to do both - Heck, my partner and I practice 4 days a week and that is all ballroom. I actually spend more time with her then my GF. Honestly though, my partner and I are super glad to take a little time away from one another because the desire to succeed is stressful. That is why I think its best to always speak your mind with your partner just like it's a romantic partner.

Anyway - I just trying to say dance is hard enough with drama. So just speak and and keep on dancing.
