How Wide is the Repertoire?

i differ there; i prefer songs rather than orchestras, with the the possible exception of Pugliese, 'cept even there, there are a dozen creme de la creme pieces...

I don't see a reason to prefer one approach to the other: there is value is getting to know the work of an orchestra, in depth, and also in getting the breadth that comes from being familiar with versions of songs across different orchestras, or combining both approaches, and knowing versions of the same song, by the same orchestra, over time (where they exist).

It's all good.

are you suggesting that 'I'm Sorry I havent a Clue' favourite One Song to the Tune of Another?

I had a nice playlist in which various versions of El Huracan were played through the evening...

Well, that wasn't quite what I had in mind, but it would make a good game: Poema, sung to the accompaniment of Malandraca - that sort of thing ...

I have wondered about doing the same sort of thing, but worried that it would be taken as a gimmick. Depressingly, though, I suspect that (almost) no one would actually notice.

i think I found that to be the case, but it would be a bit extreme to put all versions into the same tanda.. Felicia is another multiple. i dont think its a gimmick..

I was thinking more in terms of several tandas having a song in common, but in contrasting styles/periods, and with the rest of the songs in each tanda being well matched to the 'theme' song.

Semi-related post... has anyone bought music from ToTango? I am wondering if his cleaned up tracks are worth it. I think he sells individual tracks now too. Every once in a while I eye one of the DJ or collector packages, but not sure if I'm ready to plunk down that kind of cash.
