How will Breast Implants Affect Dancing

Hi everyone,

I'm an open level amateur latin/standard dancer. I'm interested in knowing if anyone here has had or knows a dancer who has had breast implants, and how they might affect dance. I'm sure we can all speculate things like "they might mess with your balance at first," and such, but I was hoping someone might be able to convey first hand experience. Of course, feel free to PM me if you'd prefer. I have met a few professionals who I'm quite sure have had it done, given their body types, but I don't think it would be polite to ask, since I don't know them very well.

Thank you!

can't help you with this one..homegrown here....I have however had some friends who, being naturally thin decided to buy some....the only complaints that I heard them raise were in terms of how long it took for them to be comfortable after the procedure particularly in terms of holding the arms in frame...I cannot imagine that they would weigh enough to be a balance issue...but perhaps those with personal experience will chime in....long recovery were the only complaints that I ever heard

The only thing I know about it is that it messes with the muscle structure in your chest. The one gal I ever knew who had it and was willing to talk about it had to wear a "scaffold" under her tops for a couple of months. And she had a lot of bruising.

I happen to go to the gym with one of the ladies and she was unable to do shoulder or pec exercises for about 4 months, it was just too tight and sensitive...I get that aesthetics are important in dance...I would just say to the OP that if she feels she must do it, she should do it during a time when she is on a decent break...now, rehab is different for everyone...I have known people who have had c-sections and been reasonably fine in 4 days...it took me three months to feel like I could even begin to use my abs for anything...and it was horrible when I did...and has never really been the same since...despite vigorous attempts....shrug

Thanks for the replies. I know you can get implants under the muscle or over the muscle, which create a different look/feel. The pec muscle slides across the ribcage and has attachments sites on the sternum and near the shoulder joint, but the incision point to get under the muscle would take time to heal, and heavy lifting/stretching would be infringed upon during recovery.

I'm more interested in longterm effects, though. Sorry about your friend, cornutt. That sounds like it sucked :/

The implants under the muscle look better/more natural, but are associated with a longer recovery period. I don't have implants or large breasts, so I can't speak to how it will affect your dancing, but I would think after 2-4 months of recovery, you should be able to hold frame and dance as you do now. I am not sure they affect balance.

Is there some thought that this will help with dancing somehow? If anything an over-developed chest can get in the way at times, but never found that smaller attributes are a problem.

Or perhaps she's not thinking about getting them to help with her dancing, but is just concerned they might interfere.

I know a lady who recently got implants. Not huge, but fair sized. She dances open latin and doesn't seem to be having any trouble with them that I know of.

I think there just might be recovery time plus getting-used-to-it time, kinda like dancing with a new partner that's much taller or shorter than your previous partner.

There is a "Well-Endowed Ladies" thread though...you might like to skim through that as well 10dancelady.
