So im gonna have my first competition in a couple of months, and this might sound a bit odd, but i dont want to compete with my real surname... Its for personal reasons basically.

And i wonder if anyone knows how it works? Do i have to compete with the exact same name that stands on my id card/passport?
Or i can change it, and write another surname on my application to the competition without having it been officially changed in my documents?

How does it work?
Im asking here because ive seen before talk here that many dancers dont compete under their real name, and i wonder how it works exactly...

Thanks for help!

Good question - I have no idea. I suppose it depends on teh dance association that you fall under. If you are doing pro-am I'm pretty sure you can use any name you choose (hey, obviously some of the pros are!!). However, if you are doing amateur you may have to ask if you can use an alias since it will not correspond to your registration name.

Maybe there is a rep here that will answer.

never been asked for an id except for US nationals. your name will be whatever you want it to be when you register.. I belive. you should be totally ok

Hi, if you are dancing at any of the USA Dance events, if your event registration and USA Dance membership card/number don't match you will be asked to register and pay for a new USA Dance membership. There is no way to cross check your registration and so there is no way for us to know if you already paid under a different name. A new registration under a new name is not so much of a problem in the Adult categories, as long as you are not trying to dance down a level, in the Youth and Junior age groups this is more of a problem.

You might be surprised at the number of people who dance under a "dance" name. I see quite a few when they come to pay for their DVDs. Often the name is a variation of their real name or 1st and middle names, but sometimes the name on the credit card or check is completely different.

I think I'd best change my name too . . . it's a hard life being called Becca Karttunen, everyone all the time asking if I'm Hanna's sister . . . ! ;):D:p
