if I had AIM office hours....

A cute thought just struck me -- aside from being available by phone and email, how useful would it be to you for the organizer for a comp you are planning to attend being available via AIM? Like, I could have AIM "office hours" where I'd be on AIM to answer questions about the comps that I'm helping with -- USA Dance Nationals, San Francisco Autumn Dance Classic, and California State Amateur DanceSport Championships.

Silly, or useful?

Since I haven't yet competed, I'm not sure how that would work exactly, but it seems to me like it'd be helpful. AIM is one of my favorite ways of communicating, LOL. Faster than email and easier than picking up the phone!

On a side note though, could we use those office hours to pick your brain about a showcase we're trying to figure out? Hehe...

I actually despise talking on the phone, which is partly where my idea of using AIM came from.

It'd be convenient for everyone else, but a hassle for you, since you'd have to be there during your "office hours" all the time.

A nifty idea. I think you should try it and see how it works for *you*. It has the potential to help more people in a given amount of time. But I hope you're good at juggling ;-)

I doubt there would be more than I can handle, even for Nationals. I would just have to cut off people who are attempting casual conversation rather than asking specific questions about the competitions.

Could be helpful. Keep in mind, though, that a lot of companies (my employer being one) block IM protocols at their firewalls; I can only IM people within the corporate network. So I couldn't IM you from work, and since I assume you're talking about daytime hours, it wouldn't be helpful for me. For your target audience, I'm not sure how much of a concern this is.

Are there people for who IMing would be more useful than a simple email correspondence?
