True story (!) apparently

Charles Sibindana, 27, stole a certificate from a clinic during his pregnant girlfriend's checkup, a court near Johannesburg heard.

He then added his own details to the note and submitted it and took seven days off work, seemingly unaware that only women consult gynaecologists.

His employers became suspicious and investigated the matter.

On passing sentence Magistrate Bruno Van Eeden warned Mr Sibindana "not to walk around faking sick letters from gynaecologists" as if he was pregnant, the South African Press Association news agency reported.

Wow! It would suck to work for an employer who requires a doctors not to go on sick leave. If they can't take my word for it, how can they trust me with my job? How about taking a sick day off to care for someone ill?

Not having to justify time away from work is one of the many privileges of being white collar - i think most of the people in the world, frankly, do not have that luxury.

Which is kind of counterintuitive... White collar or blue collar, everyone gets a certain number of vacation days and sick days. In every job, it makes sense to plan the use of vacation days to cause minimal disturbance to the business, but with sick days, why not just relax and let people use it at their discretion?

Or how about do what a coworker of mine did this past week lol. She closed the store early without letting the boss know. The boss called the store. No one answered. Then she went down to the store herself to see that no one was in the store lol. Oops lol! I saw the girl last night, and she has no idea how much trouble she is in lol. Of course I didn't say a thing, because my boss is mad! ;)

Uh, no, not always.

Don't know about South Africa but in the UK, if you are off work for three days or more, I believe, you have to get a note from your doctor. The one day here or there (and provided they don't see you on TV in the crowd/audience watching Wimbeldon or other event - as has happened!) then generally, no fuss is made. From recollection, there is certain insurances that the employer pays or can claim back from, for your not being around - bearing in mind that they are still paying you whilst you are off sick. In my experience, unless you have a serious illness, colds are supposed to be carried "bravely" :? and anything over 10 days in a year gets noted or you have to see the company's doctor

It should have been nine months. :D
