I'm back on the floor - NO PAIN!!!!

IT DIDN´T HURT AT ALL!

I had my first night out after my disc slip. It all went well….I was so surprised, relieved and HAPPY!

But I cannot control the toes outside of my right foot completely. They take directives via the sciatica and the disc bulge causes still some pressure on the nerves. There wasn’t many clockwise spins on right foot that worked well. Most of them where unbalances or too slow. I had to put in one more beat to complete the spin but I also learnt how to compensate for that in the next eight beats.

Anyhow…
The first 10 cuban dances where “endurable”. Since the right foot had problems most of the time I had to slow down overall. It didn´t give me as much happiness as usual. But I could dance without pain….for the first time this summer!!! What a relief!

Then….
A new guy invited me for a dance and he was a great X-body dancer (I almost rejected him but changed my mind :D ). I found linestyle much more suitable for my condition since I had time to prepare for the spins.

And what a dance ;) . For the first time in 3 months I forgot about pain and my bad back. I even forgot about my slow right foot. I was in the music…

I ended the night with a dance with one of my absolutely favs. Last time I danced with him I almost started to cry since everything did hurt (and that was only three weeks ago). Of course I sometimes felt like a bulldozer instead of a salsera … but we both enjoyed the dance.

I’m back on the floor again!

Pst.
My L5 disc broke finally Sunday 16 days ago. Before that I had a disc bulge for about two months. My doctors says I’m one of the few % that heals a ruptured disc in 2 weeks...or at heals most of in 2 weeks (some work need still to be done). I cannot believe - I’m so lucky. Although I spend the whole summer with a bad disc and one week at hospital – I feel like I won first price. Most people spend several months in bed.

(Before entering the floor I had several discussions with my physiotherapist. I was sure there wouldn't be any great risc except for temporay pain)

Congratulations, Lucretia! Your body sort of did surgery on itself. :D I had a dentist tell me a few years ago that this sort of thing happens more often than we realize. (I went in for a root canal. He drilled for about two minutes, stopped, took an X-ray, and told me he was done -- the root canal had closed up by itself.)

Thanks everybody!

I'm very careful when I dance. And I don't go at 100% of my capacity. I must have a few % left for unexpected events. And I want to become compl. healed.

But still.....it is amazing!
Not even at the end of that evening did it hurt. Several hours after last painkiller had stopped working.

And the morning after I felt great. It is much worse to go for work than dancing salsa. I cannot make a whole day at my desk....but I can dance :)

Slipped discs are brutal. I went through a period of a few years when it would re-occur every few months and a I was in pain almost all the time. My leg was what was in pain and it would get worse throughout an evening of dancing until It became too uncomfortable and I had to stop. Very debilitating condition for sure.

Much better now. I don't know what triggered it. Never had it properly looked at and for years I was led to believe the problem originated in my leg. It never occurred to me it was related to my back. The pain would periodically return without warning. Finally, after nursing myself back to health, the pain never came back. Soon after, I was able to start dance training regularly.
