Imaginery exchange not far from happening

(bunch of too-specific stuff removed)

Boss: you have to make a choice between your professional life and dancing

TO: You really, really don't want me to choose. Especially when I have a fair fraction of what you've paid me in the bank.

Wow! :-(

How is the dancing affecting the job? Too much time off? Sleeping at your desk from late nights out dancing ;)? Is you rjob one of those that expects 60-80 hours a week?

Don't you hate it when employer try to tell how to spend your PERSONAL time!

Long ago, when I still worked for other people, I came in to work very late because I'd been rear ended on the freeway and really should have been at the hospital. I was hti on my way to jazz class, and my boss said, "No more dance class before work." Like he could tell me that!!

Sounds like you've navigated your departure to a point in time when its easy to make the leap.

No fuss, no muss. Easy for everyone. Do the right thing for you and your family. You're the only one responsible for your future, your career choices, etc. You're not making the mistake of putting that burden on your boss, your company, or anyone/anything else.

Good Luck in your new career!:D

I actually quit a job because they wouldn't give me off the one night a week I needed for group classes. Got a better job.

On the surface it's over working extra hours, but ultimately it's about boss not understanding the project he is managing - he thinks we have a short sprint of work left but I know we actually have many months of marathon running to go, and that past sprints of unsustainable measures have actually cost us more in the long term than they gained - we end up useless in recovery mode while our customer is complaining that what we rushed together is useless.

I would like to finish the project before leaving since it's the most interesting thing I've ever done professionally. The most personally meaningful part is already done, but that is a private triumph only, it is months away from being ready for our client. But there are days I wonder if I can last there until it is really done.
