Imperial Star, Cherry Hill, NJ

For Manhattan, it was stated at the website that the (amateur) entry fees indlude admission to ballroom.
If it's an NDCA comp, and it doesn't specify, I would assume that you have to pay admission to ballroom in addition to the entry fees, just from my pro/am experiences.

amateur events are nice to spectate, but I think lower price actually makes sense for a different reason:
there are usually lots of couples competing in amateur categories. at least potentially (if the price is not too high). When there are a lot of couples in each event, a lot more people are paying the entry fee...

Also, the more contested the event, the more people will be willing to pay to attend.. For example, if you know your event is not contested, are you willing to pay the same amount to attend as you would if there was a guarter final?

exactly.
but because Imperial is not expecting the amateur comp to be big at all, in other words, they are not making much from the entry fees, there might be an incentive to charge amateur admission to ballroom so that they get more money. It's also true that on the other hand, they can stop charging admission to ballroom and hope to therefore attract more entries. It can go both ways......

I think Imperial comp is just trying to survive.. It's pretty small, and there were years when people mentioned discontinuing the comp because of lack of attendance...

They do better every other year, right?
When can't they just have the comp every other year?

edit* nevermind I just reread your questions...*

This answers a question I haven't asked yet, but was curious about

Is Imperial always the North American Championships when they are held in the US? I thought one year Yuletide Ball was the North American Championships?

knowing they were cheap this year I might go next year...

also, if they were charging admission, some people would not show up this year (like Katarzyna), so it was a choice between charging less and not having any couples at all.
