Incredibly Trivial Question about Nail Polish

Is nail polish supposed to match what you are wearing, or can it contrast?

I'm wearing magenta. Can I use a very pale pink nail polish or clear polish? My concern is that I'm not sure I'll be able to scare up the exact shade of magenta at short notice. (I should have thought of this earlier, but I'd been kind of focused on the dancing component....)

Nope, don't think so. I think it looks better to go with a complimentary color then to try to match perfectly and have just be a bit off.

I would think nail polish would accent the way you want it. Matching or not, does it look great? :)

I agree with other posters. So long as it doesn't clash with what you're wearing, you're good to go. I actually tried matching my nails to the rhinestones in my current dress, and while it's a good idea in theory, I'm rarely tan enough for it to be noticed across a comp floor. I usually just stick to red or fake nails. :)

I always try to have mine match but my shirt is always black and I don't know how the black nail look will go for me.

rofl, just kidding :)

You can pick a colour that is the same but in a different shade or hue..
If you wore an orange dress you could go with a light peach colour.. Look on the colour wheel and see what might work.

Thanks everyone! I feel very relieved, because I really do NOT want to spent the morning before competing driving myself crazy trying--probably unsuccessfully--to find an exact match.

Lol! I knew I liked you.

I'm going to be expecting to see you sporting that goth look next time I see you. ;)

Oh, and for the record, I don't believe in the existence of trivial questions that may be pertinent to the hair/nails/tanning/makeup realm of ballroom. ;)

I usually go with a soft pink or french. When I did latin I would usually go with something more bold like red.
