Been dealing with a lingering back issue for a few months and finally went to see a physical therapist. Apparently, the left side of my back is much stronger than the right which is why I keep tweaking it (it takes on the bulk of the work for both sides when I lift weights). I've been banished from lifting anything heavy as I try and equal things out which sucks because that's normally my therapeutic release.

On the bright side, he did say that dance would likely help and that I can do things like yoga (which I've never done by my coach has been trying to get me to start).

If he means that dancing will help equalize the strength on both sides of your back, not necessarily. When I started working with a personal trainer, she pointed out that the left side of my back was also much stronger than my right side and that was after dancing for years, albeit not--obviously--with correct use of the right side of my back. Sigh.

I think he was actually referring to how I should continue to use the muscle (that's also currently injured) to stop it from becoming too stiff and creating more problems. He mentioned the dance motions would be low impact as long as I warmed up correctly. We're going to work together using free weights to balance things out on the strength front.

Hopefully, that combo will sort me out. When he actually showed me the photos of my back...oof. The development almost looks like two different people at certain points.

Reviving an old thread. A couple of months ago, I had a fall and I injured my left knee. The diagnosis was a torn meniscus and a bone bruise. Had surgery three weeks ago. They trimmed the torn part of the meniscus, injected some cement into the bruised bone, and did some general cleanup in the joint. I was on crutches for a week. I'm walking now, doing physical therapy three times a week, and I started dancing again last week, although I have to pace myself a bit. I'm resuming lessons next week. I'm really pleased with how well it has gone. (And I'm looking forward to getting back to the gym, because I'm starting to gain weight.)

Yesterday I was in the studio practicing power moves and doing push ups and such, and suddenly my wrist gave out during a move and I fell. Today my wrist hurts like crazy, and I'm not sure if I should see a doctor. I have another dance class today, so I need help!

Go see a doctor!! And rest the wrist until you do. Hands and wrists are so important, you don't want to risk making the injury worse. Go get it checked, that's more important than today's dance class.

also, for your consideration in the future, it is likely that your wrist gave out because your joints weren't stacked when doing the push up...it is very important to have the shoulders and wrists stacked for push ups so that they can share the load....if they aren't then the full load of your body weight is on only one or the other....in your case, all on your wrists

The knee is gradually getting better. Last Friday at the ballroom, and yesterday at the WCS venue, I was able to dance all evening and didn't experience anything more than ordinary muscle tiredness. And I did an hour aerobics class (I was the only student!) today. My balance on the repaired knee is still not great, although it's getting better. (Have to remind myself to have a bit of patience.) And it's still not ready for high impact, so no running yet.

The place where I got the bone injection was sore on and off last weekend. I'm attributing that to the weather, which was highly variable last weekend.

It's much better now. I'm on my last week of PT. It's not quite 100%, but I can continue working it and doing exercises on my own. I'm back to my regular gym and social dancing routines, although I'm still not attempting to run yet.
