Due to foundation repairs, I had to remove my old wood dance floor from the living room area of my house. I had originally installed that floor myself about 25 years ago. The old flooring was of the sort that removing it damaged it to the point that I'd rather just put in a new floor. Technology has improved greatly since my original installation and the sheets now can be easily put together and, if necessary, later removed and reinstalled easily. I'm looking at different options, but the one I'm leaning towards is a Pergo model that is pretty much waterproof. Another brand I'm looking at is Smartcore which is also waterproof. Do you guys think Pergo is an acceptable type of flooring for a dance floor? One issue of possible concern is the amount of grooves in that flooring. These grooves seem to be simulating the texture of real wood, but my old flooring which is real hardwood, is nearly totally smooth. It doesn't need to be perfect. I do a fair amount of practice at home (International standard) and if it feels a little different from an optimal dance floor that would be fine. I just don't want to install it and find out it feels horrible. Any insight into the best options would be greatly appreciated.
