Oh my goodness, who would have thought that simply wanting to and trying to learn a dance could be so or such a minefield of do's/don'ts/whys and wherefores of all aspects of the dance from the discussion of origin, what types of tangos there are...to the holds.....to the etiquette....to the follower and from the leader....its all here to read and I must admit I have been reading a lot. Some of it I have digested, some of it I have thought "whatever"......some of the writing is very passionate....but all in all it encompasses the love that people seem to have for this dance. To me reading all this is lovely, unique but at the end of the day for me......I look forward to just being able to dance properly around a room with my darling hubby in his embrace, lost in the music Oh! and thats another subject!!!! I must admit I like the maybe newer stuff...but then its all subjective to each and all....but anyway as I said.....heres to the learning, laughter, mistakes and most of all the fun and anticipation of it all, I just love to dance and thats all I personally want to do...oh yes! x but still like to read bits and bobs about it.....sssshhhhhh!

"whatever" is a fairly useful attitude to have.

I think most of us feel about the same way you do, Melody58, at least when we go to dance.
Some of us are stuck, though, in craving as much insight into the culture and history of the dance as we can possibly accumulate. And, unlike some dances, AT is by no means well defined. THIS is how you do it. Oh, no! Not this dance!

As a member of the DF commuity, and a moderator, I just keep hoping that people can respect the differences of perspective and opinion that we each bring to the discussion.

It is unfortunate when a person becomes so passionate about their stance that it creates the likelihood that someone will have a bad experience. Most often the person creating the bad experience for others has a lot of learning to do themselves. Most of the more experienced dancers realize that, but not necessarily the new people.

So, what would it be, "properly" or "whatever"? ;)

I can't really reply now because I have to leave for AT lesson. Also, I have to analize my upset feelings over your "but not necessarily the new people" remark. Stanley~

Relax, I don't think you've even hit your first Mount Stupid (we all do, and in fact when we're not climbing down from our pedestal we're just on our next Mount Stupid).
