Just when you thought you knew ever style of tango . . .

I thought the outcome of the debate was that it was a good idea, but no one wanted to do it. ;)

What do you think of Wikia? I put together a quick page just to see if I could:

http://argentinetango.wikia.com

If people want to sign up and start making edits, that's one way to get things moving.

I think even that might be too complicated, if it's not something right off the main page I doubt it will get utilized regularly by most of the users on the board. I really DO think some sort of categorization is a great idea, but as you said, actually getting it off the ground might be tough.

If there is an easier way to categorize threads right on the main page though, I think it will get alot more use. Like I said it would have made my life ten times easier when I first got here. Who knows if we can do it.

And sorry AngelHi, off topic I know, but do you think something is actually doable?

Here in my hood, I'm developing a style called Tango Arthritico. Everyone will eventually dance this style once they are tired of the more vigorous styles. I might as well get ahead of the crowd in teaching it, since I'm getting so good at it myself. It just comes naturally to me.

I am laughing so hard. :p I need to find advanced smilies to deal with it.

The value of a wiki is that, if it is within Dance Forums, the mods could help keep an eye on it, etc, IF and ONLY IF, there are individuals who do not follow the editing rules.
Even Wikipedia has rules that people are supposed to follow. There, though, going above "edit wars" is extremely difficult.

It wouldn't be the mods, though, who would set something up within DF, it would be the adim/tech people.

Let us know what you find, Subliminal, regarding software, if you want to pursue that.

Meanwhile, keep writing about this, and we'll see if you all can reach a consensus.

I think the problem may be that the AT folder is already a subfolder. That's why I suggested "sticky" threads (threads that stay at the "top" even if the don't have the most recent posts) they could be for technique breakdown of specific moves. As you said, some of us have written the answer to your questions, well, not 10,000 times, but enough times that I'd rather go find it and paste it again than rewrite it again.

Unless of course, I've had some change of thought or new revelation. Then I might want to start a new post on the subject. Most of the time though, I'm just writing the same things again. And again. That's porbably why I eventually resort to snarkiness, sarcasm, and joking around when responding. Cause I just don't want to be serious about it all anymore.... again.. ;)

Cute. My wiki page has no content and it's already been vandalized. LOL. Someone changed the empty "tango music" heading to simply be "tango". The ip is from Germany, I wonder who it could be. ;)

To change the subject, Steve, would you like me to remove the dance-forums name from the wiki until DF has its own then? I may just keep that one going for my own use. With anonymous edits banned. ;)

another one is invented.

I was browsing the April issue of El Tangauta and happened to see the ad for the First Festival Estilo Parque Patricios for June 3-6, 2010. Teachers are Los Rivarola, Milena Plebs, Olga Besio, Federico Naveira, among others. The site is www.elgardeldemedellin.com.ar but there is no information available on it.

If Gustavo & Giselle can go from teaching what the world considers to be nuevo to tango milonguero seminars, then his son can dance estilo Parque Patricios.

This new style has just been announced and will be making its debut at the festival in June.

I appreciate the perspectives and the info.

to those that don't -

I've been on various cyberspace forums since before there was an internet (back in the days of bitnet) and I have no problem with the tone of this board, I've seen far far worse, with interminable flame wars and unmonitored trolls - as well as the threads that go - why can't this board be like it used to be?

This sandbox is big enough for everybody
