Hmmm ... looks like the magazine is marketing her, and she is helping to market the magazine not surprising.
I didn't see this coming, not that I've given her any thought since she shook her way to victory, but I'm not surprised either. We are talking reality television after all.

And viva la shake!

Are you sure we aren't talking about another soap opera? ;)

And I hope you aren't moving this topic in a direction you might ... regret? Like another time this type of topic was reviewed by you many moons ago? ;)
 You'd think I'd learn. Internet group dynamics still drive me a bit nuts. Perhaps I should be the one having a running conversation with your conscience.

I'm just about speechless since I had difficulty in stopping my laughter after such humor. ;)

This type of thing is one of the many reasons why I love DF! :D :D :D

Re: Kelly Monico, Dancing With The Stars

Hey, you started the thread AND chose which questions to quote. You also gave it at least one thumb up (up where?) all of which means you support it. Plus, is that the best you could come up with from 20 questions? Or, were they the best of the 20 questions?

Why the HELL would I want to buy that magazine? There's free porn on the Net. (Awww! I know that was harsh! )

If that's doing a "fairly decent job" then what does he have to do for it to be deemed a bad job?

That was only two of the almost 20 questions asked. You did't expect me to jot down the entire, article did you. Go buy the magazine

Eh! My take? This isn't of world-shattering importance, unless you consider what a boost little Miss Kelly (sp?) is giving to ballroom dance in this country. If it weren't for little miss bouncing boobies, millions of soap opera fans and, now, Maxim readers, might well be oblivious to the ballroom studios under their very noses.

So eh. Interview away. Just boost ballroom while you're at it. It's all good. 8)

So I happened to up late last night and caught the repeat of Kelly and Alec's appearance on the Tonight Show. Leno almost completely ignored Alec but when Leno did address him it was in a fake Russian accent. The poor guy, I felt so bad for him! (I had not seen it the first time it was aired.)

And, I felt Jay was playing to the lowest common denominator with that kind of "humor". That's what irked me about this original thread. Why is it o.k. to make fun of some people? Alex Mazo has worked harder than Jay, or the Maxim interviewer, ever will. Leaving his home country and learning to speak a new language has earned Alec my respect. This is above and beyond his dancing talents.

It's never o.k. to ridicule someone based on their ethnicity, accent or culture. I realize that I'm preaching to the choir here, but I just can't believe some people act like such dunderheads and have their own network show or get to write for a magazine. Have these people been living in a box their whole lives? Do they not know someone from a culture other than their own? I'm talking singularly here but, really this world is a multi-cultural village, let's start looking at it as such. And, question those that don't.

Damn, I 'm all fired up! I'm stepping down off my soapbox now.

I agree. I think your wording is very good -- "the lowest common denominator." Pretty cheap "humor," IMO. :(

That said, to have anything even mildly ballroom-related in Maxim? Eh. Who was it that said, "There's no such thing as bad publicity?" Even if the magazine is soft porn and the interviewer is a "dunderhead" (I love your flair for words 8) ) that's millions more people who're being exposed to the sport. Some of them might actually dance because of it. I think a lot of people -- men, women, idiots, intellects, you name it -- read magazines like Maxim. So let Maxim help get the word out. 8)

Pretty cheap trick to have her interview with Maxim right before the dance-off, btw. Bouncing boobies strike again.
Ayuh.

Does this connect? :?

Looks like my previous question has been answered. 8)

(DP, all I need to do is keep reading. )

Anyway, there are good ways and bad ways to get the word out. ;)

Pundits and Talking Heads (people like Leno) make me want to strangle them.

Anyway, I like Maxim. It's a fun magazine to read, and occasionally they have pictures of models who actually look reasonably female and which sometimes get posted on a wall.

I actually bought the magazine when i saw kelly monaco on the cover. I was waiting for a flight and wanted to read the article. The magazine flat out sucks though. And yes indead it said "greasy russian", even I couldn't really believe the interviewer actually said that. If they call Alec a greasy russian, I wonder what they would call Louis and Jonathan....

If you bought the magazine, read the article about the two kids that got lost at sea in a tiny boat for 6 days...

Ps, i still feel John and Charlotte should have won.

If you're talking about Josh Long and Troy, they were from my high school. (I just graduated back in May). It was...nerve-wracking, that's for sure. Then when they got back, their parents followed them EVERYWHERE. First of all, Josh was a senior, and he just didn't come back to school after that (it wasn't that far from the end of the school year), and then his parents even came with him to prom! I swear I'm not kidding. Kind of endearing, but sort of embarrassing for him at the same time I'll bet.

That's interesting. They should make a movie out of that story.

Interesting what something like that does to people.
