La Cumparsita

I heard a really nice jazzy version of La Cumparsita with a lot of saxophone on it at a milonga recently.

Anyone know what it is or might be?

I know I'm groping in the dark here but having been on a couple of music sites there are at least 200 recordings
so any help would be appreciated

The only jazzy one I can think of is the one with Dinah Washington (jazz singer) vocals.

Well- I didn't see anything that matched "Jazzy" on iTunes. Then I was looking for Hugo Diaz (the harmonica player- not the bandoneon player) on CDBaby (of course no one has what I want...el lloron...I'm just about to tear my hair out for it) but I did find Joe Powers (one of Alex Krebs band members) who has made a CD of Tango harmonica music. He does a version of "La Cumparsita" on his CD that is pretty jazzy (and actually sounds good so that I can stand to listen to the song). So you might check him out on CDBaby.

You get get Hugo Diaz on ebay.co.uk with a link to the seller in Argentina

I think El Lloron is on Hogo Diaz en Buenos Aires

and please do address me as 'baby' ( at least not in public;) )

it is on Hugo Diaz en Buenos Aires...but the only CD's that I was able to find are "Tangos" and some folk music. But a DJ friend came through for me so it's all good now...:p I am considering getting Joe Powers CD. He had a few songs on there I liked (one really nice milonga). I love the gritty, earthy quality the harmonica gives to tango music.

It's not Tango Siempre's version is it? It's on the Tangents album. If you go to their website there's a clip http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=173405604

Hmmm - but it is very hard to dance to!

I changed the direction of my detective work -

and went and asked the DJ and he told me and yes it was Tango Siempre

it didn't seem hard to dance to at the time, but my senses sharpen up evrey time a hear a saxophone and the beat is funky.

'bout time TS got a bandoneon. Accordion is too sweet for tangos
