Ladies. I want everyday (not dance) makeup advice.

Okay. I've had it with the fresh-faced and dewy look, and I want makeup.

Any recommendations of cosmetics you use for everyday, ladies? You know. Office, out on the town, puttering around kinda makeup. I'm not talking the stage makeup people use for dance comps. I'm talking stuff I can use every day, and preferably apply in ten minutes or less, as a part of my morning routine.

Thoughts?

I'll probably be of very little help. But...

I use Maybelline Great Lash (and you can almost always find it "buy 1/get 1" at CVS).

Tiny bit of eyeliner because my eyes are fairly small. Any old kind.

Tiny bit of blush/bronzer; a powder. I do use my Mac/Lancome, but very little.

Lipstick - whatever brand has a color I like. I'm not opposed to buying cheap stuff. I just can't take certain ones that have a synthetic smell about them.

My twin sister swears by Mac. She says I should go find the closest Mac counter, get them to do a makeover, and buy whatever they recommend. Of course, she's rolling in cash, which I'm not.

pygmalion, what kind of "look" are you after?? the fresh & natural look?? the sexy 'n mature look???

I think I'm ready for sexy and mature. Fresh and natural? Been there, done that, bought the T-shirt. Fresh and natural, for me, was exactly that. No makeup. (Which was fine for me, for years. 8) )

But now, I'm ready for a drastic change. Not so drastic that I'm unrecognizable. But still, drastic. A little va-va-va-vamp never hurt anybody.

i would try a really bright red (none of those girly pink, or dark plum) lipstick - it really helps to brighten up your complexion - oh, i also heard that bright red is the colour for the upcoming fall season!

Yeah. I love earthy reds. I also like a deep, deep pink color that's somewhere between fuchsia and plum. Mmm. 8)

As a guy, I hate the smell and the taste(if I should ever get that lucky) of makeup. So if you start wearing make-up, make sure you know how to take it off.

i'm no make-up artist (i don't have cosmetic-friendly skin  ), but i think lipstick and eye-makeup make the biggest difference. The other stuff like foundation & blush are nice to have, but when you apply too much of everything, it's overly done. What i generally like to see is one feature that's eye-catching (either eyes or lips). I'm not sure what colour of eye-makeup would go with your skin tone, but maybe something softer for office and maybe something more dramatic (or sparkly) for the night?? Maybe this is just me, but i find good technique is more important than the actual makeup. Consider i know nothing about applying eye makeup i think i'll just shut up....

I do the "fresh natural" look for work and all other non-salsa activties. But when I go out, I go for a sexy afro-diva looking :P

Most of my makeup is for the eyes
the colors I pick depends on my clothing and jewelry tones. I usually have 2 major looks:
- warm-toned: with gold/yellow colors, and gold jewelry, also burnt-gold liner or silver gold
or
- ice-toned : I use glittery/silver colors for my eyelids and below eyebrows as well like silver-blue, silver-green, white-silver, and my jewelry would consist of silver or platinum colored earrings/necklaces

Overall I like a lot of gold tones when wearing whites or light colors, or outfits that show more skin :P since my skin tone is yellowish-brown it goes well.
The silver/ice theme is great for the "confident aloof diva" look, I seem to use that for darker clothing and it's great for evening or more formal events

For eye liner - sometimes I use olive green liner instead of black (been wearing a lot of greenish outfits lately so flattering), and also dark blues .

I also almost always wear black mascara even though my lashes are reasonably long.

-Maybelline Matte mouse is wonderful foundation! the right texture (light) and they have darker shades hard to find in quality makeup. and to cover my pubscent-like pimple issues use 2 colors, the "dark fonce" #2 and #3 since my skin tone is sort of yellowish (#2 is a warm light brownish-yellow). I finish off the foundation application with some powder finish to seal it in

-I use the glossy lip color occassionally, but I don't think I really like any of the colors I've tried so far.

oh shoot! Just re-read your post, you need a casual look. Well you can modify the basics (foundation and eye color) to match daytime/work events so no big silver looks for you ;)

That's okay. 8) I'm looking for a casual look to use most of the time. But confident, aloof, afro-diva would be a nice look to have in my back pocket, just in case I need to dress (and makeup) to impress. :D

anyone can recommend a good eyeliner?? all the brands i've tried smudge and i look like i've got dark circles by the end of the day.....

Get some eyeliner and mascara on you! Nothing looks more sophisticated than visibly made-up eyes. I'm a recent convert to liquid liner, I always shied away because I thought it looked harsh on me but once you get used to it, it's the best.

hmm I just buy the first and cheapest thing at my local drugstore, usually cover girl or maybelline. I don't use the pencil kind anymore though, I think it's a hazard poking yourself in the eye with a wooden stick

I prefer the soft, pen-like liners that you can twist in and out, plus it doens't take many tries to apply enough

hmm, i tried putting on eyeliners - but somehow they all make me look like a panda instead    ..... as for mascara, i've yet to find a rob-proof one!
