Lady's heel turn in checked spin turn?

Any thoughts on the pros and cons of dancing the checked spin turn with the lady doing a heel turn, versus just doing a small step onto her right foot?

That's an interesting idea. The line would be smaller, but higher; I'm not sure which would be better.

The main down side as I see it would be that you don't get a full slip pivot in the exit. Possibly you could blend the check and the exit, though.

How do you plan on getting the lady into a heel turn when she isn't going backwards on any of the steps?

That was my question, Joe! I thought: really, a heel turn in a spin turn without me taking any backward steps?

In Geoffrey Hearn's book/DVD of advanced standard figures, he gives a "checked natural turn" and gives a natural pivot as a precede. Likely he intends it to follow a set of pivots counted 1&23 with the 3 being the man's LF pivot, and then he times the checking action following with a regular 123. So he doesn't call it a checked spin turn, and I guess technically it's not with the above timing. But the lady can be led into a heel turn following a pivot, as in the running right turn, so it most certainly can be done.

Not the same action as a checked spin though.

That's exactly why I was asking the opinion of people here on whether such a thing would be feasible or not. As I said before I've never done it this way but often the best new ideas come from bad ones so why not think it out?

It is definitely more correct for the man to dance a forward step. Would it not more correct for there to be a small back step before her more typical placing (Josh's point)? I do agree w/ this, though....

Then why not just grab a lady and try it out? :)
