Latin shoes for men

My husband and I are thinking of competing in Latin but there is one hitch. He hates latin shoes because of the heel. He normally wears the Tango 1 inch heel from International. I know there are various rules for ladies shoes. So we were wondering, is it necessary for guys to wear the 1½ inch heel? Is there some rule that says you absolutely have to?

There's no rule, but he will have trouble past beginning syllabus with the movement, as it really works well only with heels. Tell him to start slowly (1/2 hour the first day, etc) and pay attention to the coach re: forward weight distribution. He'll soon see why he'd be really putting himself at a disadvantage without height.

I imagine that a femme could also wear flats, but she wouldn't win. The look is too dependent on leg lines.
