Learning to make a tailsuit

Does anyone have any input on how to make a set of tails? Or perhaps an old, un-usuable tailsuit that a I could buy for cheap(so I can tear it apart to see how it works)?

The main issue I am encountering at the moment is getting too much fabric in the body of the suit around the chest and underarm areas.

Never made a suit, but I can tell you it's normal for ballroom tails to have "more" fabric around the arm/armpit, to the point that it's uncomfortable to put your arms down all the way. They're constructed to be comfortable an fitted with your arms up, not down. Not sure if that's the problem you're having, of course.

where are you located?

Yes, I have a really nicely weighted hair canvas interfacing. For all you out there with a high end suit, is the fabric wool or is it a synthetic, cooler blend?

I've had both. I don't think synthetic is necessarily any cooler. You don't want too lightweight a fabric. Maybe if you post a photo of the problem area?
