lessons not satisfying

Yep. And typically this is met by total silence - which, for a teacher, is pretty depressing.

If the subject is too unfamiliar questions just don't come. I use questions only to fill in information still missing and never start a case with questions. This could be a cultural one and Dave you are right it is difficult for teachers to be inspired. Others use questions to develope their knowledge from the beginning; a more shared activity.

An ask-technique working for me is, when taking lessons, to work together with my follower as far we can get with the movements and then ask the teacher to look and dance with us. I ask for a dance test if teacher is not doing it automaticly. I want my follower to stay and listen what corrections I must do so she can remind me when needed; and the opposite.

I ask both teachers - they always have different things to tell!

You definitely have to find another teacher in order to continue dancing. One way of doing that is to go to milongas and take a class before. Usually these classes are walk-in classes. You can find a teacher that you like without committing to group lessons and then find out if group lessons are available from them.

Hi,

I booked 8 sessions of TA lessons with my girlfriend. (special offer for students).
We are both absolute beginners.

But i am not very satisfied with these lessons. Dont get me wrong, I really like the dance, i like dancing it, but In my opinion the lessons are really crappy.

First of all there are 14 couples and 2 solo females in a really small dance room.
The place is not really a problem, i guess that later at milonguas there isnt much more place. But often when the teacher shows something half of the students isn't able to see it.

Second, yesterday was my 4th lesson, and we learned some figures (basic 8-step? with a sacada, a sandwich, and a gato?, and a fancy ending, which seems to be a version of "Open legs". Most of the names i didn't remember, i looked them up on wikipedia), but we never actually learned how to lead them. There was also never something said about music, and not very much on "how to move".

We also never really learned the embraces. There was a half-minute demonstration on the OE, and that was it.

And it is a single male teacher, not a couple.

I am hooked on TA, but my girlfriend isn't, and this situation does not really encourage her.

I know that I am never going to do a course there again, but i am going to finish this one (already paid).

I am trying to make the best of it, by trying to learn the important parts that were left out from other sources, at the moment youtube tango-lessons (general and on leading technique).

What else would you recommend me to do?
