lets talk about leotards!

Who said I don't wear a bra? A leotard would be much more revealing than the shirts I wear. I'm wondering, are you talking about ballroom or another type of partner dancing?

Hi amanda-j, as you may have noted, there are mostly partner dancing dancers on these boards. I have found that it is a rarity among ballroom/latin dancers that they wear leotards in practice.

In many cases it just isn't needed in the partnered dances, the movement is a bit more "restricted" than ballet, modern and/or jazz. And in the moments it's not "restricted", it's usually being covered by a long/short skirt (and dance trunks).

I have seen it though, if a latin/ballroom dancer has had other types of dancing in their backgrounds they sometimes are most comfortable with leotards as a base to their outfits.

p.s. I prefer leotards that are ballet cut or the lower jazz cuts!

OK Everybody I give up

My Little sis seeks attention by dressing in my 15 year old skimpy leotards. She has no female friends, and she has been taken advantage by so many guys, so many times since last summer. Everytime this has happened she calles me crying and says"Mandy whats wrong with me? Why do guys like me for only a week or two? I tried out for Varsity dance officer this summer and I got shot down!" And then she came to visit me last fall to attend a dance class and I dropped my jaw when I saw what she had on! A blue thong almost see through leotard over white tights. I said "This is what youre wearing to class, and she proudly sais "YES. I AM." I thought, no wonder girls hate you and youve had so many short term boyfriends! She almost looked like a callgirl/ Could this be her way of getting more attention than shes not already getting? HELP! I hurt for my little sis!

Im back and as usual Karin was balling and bitching so much about the same old thing, I hung up. I am emotionally drained from having to listen to all her problems(Its the same problem over and over, and I love her dearly), but this call was , well, different and, well, I dont know how to describe.

Somehow, I don't think the issue is leotards. It does sound like she's eager for attention and not sure how to get the right kind. I'd recommend you encourage her to seek counseling. It might help her be happier.

Who ever invented leotards for us girls, their designers, their distrubitors, their retailers, etc, should be..........

You could write on the head of a pin everything I know about leotards.

I do understand that some dancewear, particularly that worn in ballet settings, is intended to allow instructors to clearly see everything they need to see regarding what the dancer is doing with her body.

I doubt, however, that it is necessary for a garment to leave uncovered any part of the buttocks or for it to be less than opaque for it to acheive this goal.

I suspect that any leotard that reveals more than the necessary amount of the dancer's form is not intended for dance class, but for other, less lofty pursuits.
