On to the lighter!!
I had a wonderful and different coaching session this week-end. The session direction was prompted by a comment I made at the beginning of the session. So the lesson turned into how to how to express in dance what I feel, the artistry of dance. The coach told me that he recommends this book for each of his students to read....called The Artists way. I am quite excited to venture onto this 12 week exploration of myself with this book as a guide...

I appreciate so much after I just spoke for 2 or 3 minutes that the coach new what his job was for our session...
When after 45 minutes you leave being inspired you know you have been coached by the best.

The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron? If so, gorgeous book! I started the 12 weeks ( for an area of art not related to dance) and it was wonderful. Beautiful writing style, lovely quotes throughout. Hope you love it!

For those of you who enjoy reading about dance history and politics... Has anyone read (or heard anything about) American Allegory: Lindy Hop and the Racial Imagination? It just came out in May of this year, and I'm curious if it might be a good read.

Does anyone know of a good "dictionary" type reference book? I can google terms as well as anyone, but I would really love a reliable primary source. Kinda like a music dictionary for ballroom?

Not trying to learn to dance from a book, btw, just want to be able to look stuff up.

I like Competing Like a Pro by Jessika Fern. Good book tailored especially for pro am and am competitors. I liked her first book too.

"Move like a Champion: A Revolutionary Program of Simple Exercises that Will Change Your Dancing Forever!" Kasia Kozak and Diane Jarmolow with Barbara Selck
