Livestream, Live stream: upcoming

Ok guys, USDC is streaming. What about Embassy? I couldn't find anything on the website but it seems like too big of a comp not to. I'd love to watch new teacher compete.

There was apparently a stream in 2024—see DanceComp-dot-com—but I don't see any info there about this year...you'd think it'd be up already. You could send an inquiry on their website or FB page.

Via @Pryn, thank you:

"For the first time ever, the ENTIRE USDC competition will be livestreamed - not just the pros in the evening sessions!

That means every Pro-Am, Amateur, and Professional moment is on screen. Now, your friends and family can cheer you on from anywhere in the world!

Don’t miss a beat. Tune in and witness the energy, elegance, and excellence of #USDC2025.

Visit our website unitedstatesdancechampionships.com for more details!"

dancecomp.com is streaming Embassy: it's accessible (for a fee) from their webpage...

VENTING ALERT:

I’m watching the USDC livestream of the closed bronze rhythm events this morning. The ballroom is split down the middle when there are multiple events happening at the same time. Right now, on the side of the ballroom closest to the main camera, there is one couple in one event. On the far side of the ballroom, at the opposite end from where the camera is, much too far away to see any details, are the eleven other couples in the semifinal for the other event happening at the same time.

Every 16-23 seconds, the camera view switches to the other side of the ballroom where the 11-couple semifinal is; and after 16-23 seconds, it switches back. (Yes, obviously I counted the number of seconds it stayed on each side. Several times. The longest I counted was 23 seconds; the shortest was 16.) One problem with this is that the time spent focusing on each side includes time dancing AND time standing still waiting for the next heat to start, AND waiting while they call out the next judging panel, etc. So the total amount of time during which I could actually watch the dancing was VERY limited in some heats.

(Note: this is less of a problem when the floor is not split, although it’s still frustrating when you’re trying to watch a particular couple and the camera keeps moving away from them... but that’s true of all livestreams.)

Also, the heat number is not displayed on the giant screen or anywhere else. You have to have the sound turned up and wait for the announcement between heats to find out what heat you’re watching.

Also, the lighting in the ballroom (as captured by the cameras doing the livestream, anyway) is such that anyone in a light-colored dress is almost completely invisible against the floor, which appears to be a solid block of white. If you are a light-skinned blonde wearing a light-colored dress, sorry, you don’t exist on that floor, according to the livestream view.

The leads’ numbers on their backs are similarly invisible – just a bunch of blank white rectangles in the middle of their backs. This is really frustrating, because I would like to know who I’m watching!

Grump grump grump. Maybe it’ll get better as the comp goes on.

But WOW - nevermind the livestream whining - the dancing itself is pretty darn impressive! The closed bronze rhythm students are showing a level of control over their body movements that I sure as heck didn’t have in bronze (and still don’t have yet in silver, actually).

I’m betting this ain’t their first rodeo.

Can’t wait to watch the silver events!
