Long hair issues...

You're right , cocodrilo... but I have really thick hair and it just gets so darn hot :!:
So have I! It's incredibly hot, but it looks better down and the guys like it! In order for me to make any kind of bun, I have to use gargantuan hair clips which get in the way when guys turn or spin me.

My hair is mid back, light and curly. I like wearing it in a pony tail, but recently that has been hitting guys in close spins. The worst was one time at an wcs event. I was having an awesome dance with a really advanced/pro dancer (one of my best dances ever) and he was sweating really profusely. Every time Id spin, my hair would hit him in the face, and whik sweat flying everywhere, and onto me. yuk!

I have quite a few dance hairstyles- I want a hairstyle to show off my curls, and not hit guys.

heres a not very good picture of me rocking the dorothy style. two french bradis rubber banded at my head, letting my hair be curly and pretty

i have mid-back length hair as well. I usually wear it in a ponytail b/c i'm not much of a hair stylist but lately i think i've also been hitting some really poor guys in the face - still searching for the right hairstyle that's not going to take 10 min....

i'd say i wear my hair down 50% of the times - i don't sweat a lot so it's actually o.k. for me - the only problem is when i turn, i still have to avoid whipping the poor guys in the face!

Getting whipped in the face is rather annoying (especially if it's a braid). While you might not sweat, think of this... If a girl's hair whips me in the face, that's one less time I need to wipe it off with my hands. Does that make you want to wear your hair up now?

I just remembered a funny hair story. I dance tango and balboa: both on-body style dances where you're pretty much cheek to cheek. The girl's hair doesn't necessarily have to be long to be a problem. If it's not pulled back, I usually end up with a few strands straying into my mouth. Usually I can just turn my head to free it up.

I was at the balboa rendezvous this past year and the first night, I'd gotten some gum to help freshen my breath after the long plane ride. I danced with this one girl who had medium length wavy blonde hair which had been getting in my face and occassionally into the corner of my mouth. I won't go into how annoying that is, but in one particular instance, turning my head didn't seem to be working. The girl felt what was happening and before I could do anything, she reached up and pulled her hair away... and my gum right with it! It was a very strange feeling. I totally wasn't expecting it. It felt like the gum just crawled out of my mouth! After a moment of surprise where I was trying to figure out where my gum went, I stepped back and proclaimed: "You pulled the gum right out of my mouth!" And right away, she started frantically feeling around in her hair, but luckily, I looked down and it was on the floor.

So I learned a good lesson that night: No gum when dancing on-body. Ladies: Beware the gum chewing bal/tango lead when you have unbound long hair!

*gulp*.....

Is it just me or do other ladies find that they spin better when their hair is up in a bun as opposed to when it's down? For me, I think I can spot better when my hair isn't in my face which in turn helps my spins.

Still my hair usually comes out of a bun within a dance or two so I either dance with my hair down all night or keep putting it up every other dance.

No way. I was doing some multiple spins last week and I had my hair up in a bun, all pinned and clipped up. I do some pretty fast spins and spot each one and whipped the whole thing out! Dance in a ponytail after that...(I have very heavy hair)

My hair goes down to my waist and it is very thick and heavy and also very straight which makes it difficult to make any kind if hair accessories stay put. Usually i pull all the hair in a low ponytail and then braid it. Afterwards I wrap it into a bun and fix it with lots of hairpins. Usually it survives a night of hard dancing.
Uh, hairpins bad. Especially the sharp wooden sticks used to hold a bun together. That stuff hurts. Don't use it.

I also have guys asking me to leave my hair down when dancing.
Yes, leave it down please. Getting a mouthful of hair is part of the appeal of social salsa. If a guy doesn't want your hair in his face he has the option to not spin you for example. 8)

Although I can't see my own hair swishing around when I dance(I can certaily feel the sweat on the back of my neck, though!), I love to see ladies with pretty hair dance. It looks so nice swishing around, and the guys seem to like it, too.

Men are strange?!! I would hate to get someone's hair in my mouth.

Personally I love dancing with girls who has long hair, I find them pretty sexy and I could say very exotic too. But when some girls wears ponytails , those I have to be careful when doing the spining, that is like long belt if I get hit in my face. :)
