Looking for dance style for a wedding song

Hi All,

I'm trying to figure out a good style of dance for what will our "second" dance at our wedding. It will be to Ingrid Michaelson's "The Way I Am". You can hear the song here. http://www.playlist.com/searchbeta/tracks#ingrid way I am

What style of lovely couple's dance would go well with this?

Our first dance will be to Etta James' "At Last" and we're planning on doing the Nightclub Two Step to that. :) The second dance will occur some time later..maybe 20-30 minutes after our first, perhaps we'll be called up by the DJ. And hopefully, the second time we get up there and dance, it will look different enough from our first dance, lol! We don't want to be the couple who "only knows one dance"! ;-)

Thanks so much!

hmmm...that's a cute song - although it's mellow, the beat is kind of bouncy so I would say it's mostly suited for swing. Also maybe a relaxed cha-cha.

Thanks for the input! I too thought it needed some kind of latin dance with that kind of beat going on in the background! Rumba it shall be, unless someone thinks there's something better for it?

I'll have to keep swing in mind for another dance! It is one of my favorites!

For the first dance, some Rumba.
English Waltz, Slow Cha Cha, Bachata, Merengue, Swing ( aka Jive ), if you like it.

The rest depends what type of music you like.

I have another wedding dance question, lol! This is for the Father/Daughter dance. I want to dance to "Sunshine on My Shoulders" by John Denver. :) You can here it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eivZd4j5MBs

I cannot imagine what kind of dance would go with that, lol! Any ideas?

Thanks, you've all been such a help! :)

4/4 at 37.5BPM, only thing I can really think of is nightclub twostep. You get a little more flexibility if you can slow it down a bit, but still not feeling a real ballroom fit, for my tastes. get it down to 36 BPM and you're at top of american rumba, could play around with a bit of more playful rumba choreography

Hmmmmm...definitely something to consider.

So far I've got the Nightclub 2-step and the Rumba reserved for 1st and 2nd dances with my future hubby. I could do the NC2S again with my dad... or do a different dance to either of the two hubby dances. That might be easier to do than to torture John Denver's sloowwwwwwww song into a dance it can't accomodate.

Here's a funny question.. my dad doesn't know how to dance, except for - of all things - disco! He and my mom used to hit the discotheques in the late 70s and even gave informal lessons in our basement-converted-to-a-dance-floor! Whenever I dance with him, I always remark that couples disco is very similar to swing dancing. So, I wonder if there's any good "Father/daughter dance" songs that would lend themselves to disco dancing or swing! :D

The NC2S with your dad would be perfect for someone that doesn't do much partner dancing. The basics are pretty quick to learn, the basics look good and are graceful. Plus, there is plenty of time for a leader to think. If he is excited to do more than the basics, NC2S has tons of fantastic patterns borrowed from just about every kind of dance.

I'm not a wedding planner, but I wouldn't stress over repeating the same kind of dance. After those few minutes, the DJ will pick the pace right up anyway. So it seems like your wedding. Pick the songs you like.
