Manolito y su Trabuco have a concert tour in Japan which begins Thursday in Tokyo! I just got tickets for the 8/14 gig which will be in Osaka! This is my FAVORITE Cuban band and one of the reasons I got into latin music & dance! My friend & I are going to spend the entire weekend in Osaka hanging out & partying! Yeehah!

:D ooooooooh you lucky duck........I love them too!

I wonder where they would go after Japan....? maybe we should hire someone to kidnap them downunder for some gigs, too  !

I think one reason they come here is the amount of money they can get as Japanese easily shell out megabucks for concert tickets. Tix to this event were $41.50 purchased in advance. SOme of the venues are rather saknky clubs but the one in Osaka is in the "Sky Building", a gorgeous event hall where I attended a salsa festival a few years back. (Place can easily hold 1000 people, which means ample dance space!Whee!)

Lots of dates in Japan, followed by one in Spain. Nothing posted after August, 2004 (on afrocubaweb.com)

btw, one can order at least one Manolito CD from Amazon.com. I was afraid that the whole US limits on Cuba would prevent the music from being exported to the States, but no, it's available.

(and why didn't you mention that he's a certified cutie-pie? Woohoo!  )

Oh man. I abosolute love their Marcando La Distancia CD. Boy are you lucky! :D :D

By the way Amazon can be over-rated!! I always do a couple web searches to get the best price for stuff that I want. Prices like 45 dollars for the CD Marcando La Distancia, there!! Ridiculous! Just a friendly warning.

I've heard that if you like Manolito you light like "Pupy Cesar Pedrosa, and in particular the work of his newly formed band, "Pupy Pedroso y Los Que Son Son". Any truth in that?

Yeah Sagitta, that price is ridiculous. But these are prices from people selling their personal copies, not Amazon. Amazon has it out of stock. They know that so people are selling personal copies at ridiculous prices.

Did anybody try another music site? Amazon can be a real pain if stuff is out of stock or nearly out of stock. I waited a couple months for a book once (even after they said they had a copy and confirmed my order) before they finally admitted it was out of stock. :x

Yeah, now that makes sense, Pygmalion. That CD has been out of stock for at least six months. Try descarga.com or even circuitcity.com

I find that even if descarga.com is a little slow in delivery they usually have salsa books/percussion/santeria as well as most latin music CDs in stock way cheaper than amazon.com... now I don't buy from them unless it is a CD that I just can't find locally... thus far only 2 CDs... books I've bought quite a few from them that I don't seem to find cheaper... it seems that the more specialized the book/album is, the more expensive it is at amazon.com

Manolito was FABULOUS! The venue, "Stella Hall" at the Sky Building(Osaka skyscraper!) holds 3000, but I think there were only about 500 people! After an opening band(a Japanese group that played latin-style pop?!) and several dance performances, Manolito y su Trabuco came on at 9:45. Stella Hall is basically a giant dance floor, so half the concert we were right up front and the other half we went towards the back where there was still space on the dance floor & we joined the other hard-core salseros. Manolito played mostly songs from their past album and the 3 vocalists rocked(especially that sexy little guy!!!)!!! I picked up their new album "Locos po mi Habana" which I will listen to and report on later!

Great cocodrilo. :)
