Marks from UK open

Wow! The judges really have differing views!!! I looked only at Pro and Amateur Latin. I looked specifically at Eugene and Maria's marks, which was the most controversial I think: many judges marked them 2nd BUT unfortunately, there were a few who marked them 5th and 6th (Donnie Burnes was one of them), at least enough to bring them down to 4th. What a pity!! I really don't think they can be marked down to 6th right? I mean, come one! Sure, there are some couples who can arguably challenge Eugene/Maria but these two are certainly strong 2nd or 3rd place finalists at least!!

For Pro Latin, the marks were generally consistent across the board although two judges marked Sergey and Melia first!!
 
It's pretty amazing just how dominant Mirko and Alessia are right now. To get an almost across the board agreement (only one judge didn't place them 1st overall) in professional competition where every couple is superb is quite a feat! 52/65 first place marks - unbelievable!
 
Except Bryan and Carmen have been around for ages and are on the verge of retirement. Mirko and Alessia are still very new pros...

Under the skating system, a 6th place mark is rarely more effective at bringing someone down to 4th than a 4th place mark would be (the exception being the rule for breaking ties)
 
Nice to know that Domenico Soale & Gioia Cerasoli made it to the 6th place ... Really enjoyed their dances in their Amateur Ballroom competitions, will try to see them in the professional ballroom when I get some DVD later.

Does anyone know who the majority of the judges are? Aside from Karen Hardy, Donnie Burns and Aspen Salsburg, who else is notable?

Actually as Chris mentioned under the skating system a small minority of judges cannot affect results. It's a pain to manually change that website's stupid formatting to scrutineering form so I only did two, but even if you remove the 2nd and 6th judge (who gave e&m 6s in both dances) as if they didn't exist, the placements would've remained unchanged in these dances:

ChaCha was extremely close for places 3-5, E&M eked out Matej who edged DiFilippo

Amazingly if any of the 4 judges that gave DiFilippo a 5 in rumba gave him a 4 instead, E&M would've ended up with a 5th in Rumba.

I don't have a perfect understanding of the skating system but it just seems that there were a lot of judges who have E&M 2nd places and unfortunately, quite a number who gave them 4th-6th overall. I'm talking about overall placing and not individual dances because I looked at the table where overall placings were shown by each judge. So, I'm led to believe that sufficient bad marks will affect your placing. Of course, I do agree that two or three outliers are unlikely to affect the overall score. Anyway, my point is that I am still very surprised that E&M did not get a 3rd at the very least. They must have either (1) danced poorly relative to the finalists pool or (2) they are indeed more unpopular in Europe (suggested by other posters on another forum but I don't know for sure since they did come in 2nd at Blackpool in 2005).

I don't care to dispute marks cos it is what it is. I do hope they will kick some a@@ in Blackpool.

I agree! I absolutely LOVE Eugene and Maria. I have to say they are my top favorite am couple but I dont understand how some judges can mark them so low. They are awesom together. Definately not 6th place material
