your question reminds of school exercises where we had to "explain" a poem.

too much like hard work; if you dont feel the sadness in the poem or the music then you dont feel it. no amount of explaining is going to change that. but its still a beutiful piece of music to dance to.

OFF TOPIC I have a version of this song by the chilenean singer Pablo Ardouin, which is not on YT. By the way, the CD Censurado is the first tango CD I ever bought and the pieces are still the back bone of any Tango de Salón Tanda, when DJing.

I like the Balaban version where the melody is buried then reveals itself and of course the Hugo Diaz version on harmonica
