Please get with me on this one because I'll feel stupid other wise....Have you ever watched a movie that just made you want to dance. Don't lie, we all want to be Jennifer Grey or Patrick Swayze from Dirty Dancing. Dirty Dancing is my make me want to dance movie. You got one?

Shall We Dance of course. I loved the music in it and my Grandma and I saw it at the theatres together, she even got really into it.

The first? Let's go way, way back... I think it was Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. Loved the dance at the barn-raising scene.

After that, any Gene Kelly musical, I love them all!

Recent times; original Japanese version of Shall We Dance?

Shall we dance Japanese version, Strictly ballroom and Dance with me. Are 3 I remember. Actually anything with good dance music, makes me want to dance.

Take the Lead. My former social partner and I saw it together the weekend it came out and spent two hours trying to replicate the tango demonstration.

All of the above! I love them all, of course some of the dialogue is a bit dodgy, and if anyone got to see Shall We Dance the Japanese Version, there is not much different in the dialogue at all to the US version, but all of them make you feel good and want to dance. Worst Dance movie to date is Burn The Floor, I found it embarrassing. But go dance movies !

granola - neat idea for a thread and please don't be shy! If the thread doesn't work it just disappears from the radar, sort of a natural selection process!

Timely too - my last post was on Chris's thread - about letting loose and I just mentioned the movie White Nights where Baryznykov, who had defected from the soviet union finds himself back there due to an emergency landing. He is put in the care of Greagory Hines who is a viet nam era defector. The reason I mention this is a scene where the two of them dance together a mix of styles that I will never forget and I was totally enchnated by (partially because of the setting in an old studio in Moscow). I think that was a scene that really affected my interest in dancing - welll worth seeing.

Thanks for the thread!

more of a documentary than a movie... it's called Rize.

"Rize chronicles a dance movement that rises out of South Central Los Angeles with roots in clowning and street youth culture."

Not a "dance movie" but Animal House: The frat party scene when the band does "Shout!"

And going back to my original "any Gene Kelly musical" comment: my daughter can tell you I have been known to break into a bad imitation of tap dancing when "Gotta Dance" comes on during Singing in the Rain. Can even happen when her girlfriends are over, much to her chagrin :D

sure.. they vary in style .. eg. of ones i remember:

Saturday Night Fever
Break Dance 1 & 2
Dirty Dancing 1
Salsa (the one with the guy with the hair)
Dance With Me
The Tango Lesson
You Got Served

Funny you mention Rize. Just saw it last week and it was very fascinating.
