Music at WCS Dances

I think the WCS club here in town is about the only one I know of that plays only music for WCS; many others I've noticed insert some Cha-Cha, NC2S, C&W 2 Step and Hustle.

What is the mix at your WCS dance?

Varies by DJ. In addition to varying choices along the spectrum of blues-swing-hiphop-contemporary-R&B-etc. expected of a WCS dance, most DJs will play an occasional Hustle and NC2S, some will play Cha-Cha (though most people dance WCS to it), and a few play a Country Two-Step and Waltz on occasion.

Definitely varies by DJ. The other DJ I like plays a lot of R&B as well as the "classic" WCS songs (The Game of Love, which one can CC to). I play a lot of 80's songs and more modern stuff (Usher, Britney, Outkast, 50 cent) but I am getting back to more classic R&B stuff. I'll definitely play CC, H, salsa, and merengue, though most of the other DJ's that work one of the local clubs on Westie night won't. (Of course, I am more a ballroom DJ than I am a pure swing or pure salsa DJ, so I will not hesitate to play waltzes or quicksteps/foxtrots that can double as swings.)

The mix you described sounds a bit like what we play in KC. Well, we have one DJ who is nationally known and he will mix some NC2 and two-step into his mixes. Sometimes, he DJs what he calls his California mix, which would also include cha-cha, maybe some foxtrot.

When I DJ for westie events, I prefer to play just westie music, perhaps with some swing music depending if any lindy hoppers are present. However, I don't have many (1-2) NC2 songs and no country songs.

Our DJ mixes in club dances...hustle, NC2S, Salsa. Occasional country two step or cha cha (which everyone wcs's to!)

Understood. I definitely don't have as much "country" stuff in my music arsenal, which is a reflection of the audience's wishes. Clamp down on the NC2S and country 2S stuff. I have some in case, but it's certainly not "classic" country.
