My new dance partner

I seem to be luckier than I deserve in dance partners. First, by getting set up, completely by chance, with a phenominally talented and charming teacher (about whom I have previously bragged on and on until I'm sure everyone was sick of hearing it).

And second, I've been taking international standard classes for about eight weeks. Also in these classes is one of the more talented bronze/silver female dancers at the studio. We ended up partnering in the class because we are matched in height. I like to take a good long stride (at least when it's appropriate) and not many women can match it. But this one can with no difficulty at all. I can't match her in technique (yet) but when we stretch out in a waltz or a foxtrot we cover some serious yardage. As a follower she's as light and responsive as a helium balloon. I know that's not a very flattering simile but what I mean is she's very agile and quick, and almost always picks up on even my weak or ambiguous leads. I think she tolerates* my relative ineptitude because of my relative altitude. She's almost six feet tall in heels, I'm about two inches taller in shoes.

We've talked a little about taking a few turns in some future studio showcase, maybe even an am/am competition. I brought up the idea and she was, to my surprise, immediately receptive to it even though she could easily get a more skillful partner.

That's all. I just wanted to brag about my dance partners again. Now I'll give it a rest for a while. Carry on.

*By which I don't mean to imply she dances with me grudgingly. On the contrary she's very gracious about it.

Wait a minute - tall (5'10.5 w/o shoes), long stride, super light follow and able to appreciate your lead???

So, happy as I am for you why didn't you ask me first? :stamping on the ground and making a 'how dare you' face: emoticon.

[congrats, sounds like you found a winner :)]

I thought of you first, Elise my dearest, but Toronto is, well, a bit of a commute from Minnesota. I promise that's the only reason.

But yeah, I bet you would give me a nice spin around the room. If we ever get the chance, just make sure your health insurance is current.

at our speeds/heights/summed tonnage maybe we should be more worried about third party insurance...

Reminds me of an old Far Side cartoon. Can't find a link but I'll try to describe it.

There's a building with a ballroom studio on the second floor with big windows. A couple has crash through the window and are falling, still in frame.
