Need dance help and Intruduction

Hello everyone, this is my first time posting here ><! First off, I'll introduce myself. My name is Tony, 18, and I moved to the states when I was 8 from Taiwan.

Anyway, the only actual "dancing" that I have done is DDR (Dance Dance Revolution), a game where you step on arrows a pad/platform as arrows scroll up to the outline arrows.

For a better look for yourself,

http://www.ddrfreak.com

Most of you probably know what that is already, it's gotten quite popular in the states nowadays.

Though it's called Dance Dance Revolution, I've noticed a lot of people are simply stepping to a beat... rather than actually dancing (check out the Video link at ddrfreak.com, watch both dancers Torron and Jing to see what I mean). I believe even on a "game" such as DDR, there should be actual dancing.

That's what brought me to the search of dance on the internet. It seems I have stumbled into Dance Heaven (here) :)

Now, I've noticed that I do "alright dancing" on DDR, but then I noticed that once I'm off the pads, I can't dance... at all... -_-

Sometimes I can just randomly imagine arrows from the game with the beat of the music and start dancing, but then that's how I realized that I have no idea what to do with my hands other than moving them here and there...

Could anyone post a few tips or websites on how to dance hip-pop in general-

Oh yeah, sorry, forgot to state that this post is mainly about hip-pop dancing, since there are so many different forms of dances -_-

continuing on-

So yeah, if anyone could post tops/sites on how to dance in general and what to do with your hands and arms, it would be overly grand =)

The only thing I can THINK of to do with my hands so far is pretending I'm doing something with them such as... starting a lawn mower -_-|||

Hi fadingmemories47. Welcome. :D

Yeah. I know what you mean about DDR and "regular" dancing. They seem to require different types of skills. Which is not to say you can't dance. If you have the large motor/eye coordination to dance DDR successfully, you can learn to dance, IMO. You just haven't developed your dance skills yet.

Have fun, here. Take a look around, and ask all the questions you want. It's nice to have you here. 8) :D
