Need help on fabric

I'm having someone make a costume somewhat similar to the one worn by Katusha D. in UK Open earlier this year. Right now the fabric suggested is lycra for both body and skirt so it's like a one piece. But I'm concerned that lycra skirt doesn't flow as well. Has anyone have skirts in lycra? How does it compare to chiffon or satin?

What do you think is used in Katusha's dress? Are the body and skirt of the same fabric?

If the link doesn't work, I'm looking at the UK Open professional standard photo gallery on dancesportinfo.

Thanks!

I don't know much about fabric, so I can't help much - but if anyone else looks at this, Jonathan and Katusha are on page 11 of the photo album that LXC has linked to. Just to save you a few minutes. :)

Lycra is a good ballgown material, but a heavier fabric than chiffon or usually even satin. It drapes very well, but in the common thin weights tends to hug the body a bit more unless given life by the movement. Gowns intended to have a bigger, more floating look might well incorporate underskirts, which probably could be chiffon even if the top layer is lycra. Or you could use something at the hem to add volume - though neither feathers or fishline may be quite as "in" at the moment as they have been at times.

Thank you both:)

Chris, if you have a chance to check out Katusha's gown and let me know what material that might be, I'd highly appreciate it. I'm most curious about in a stoning design like that (verticle designs that go from body to skirt), do the body and skirt have to be the same material (one piece)?

Is this one lycra? Is that fishline at the bottom?

I seriously doubt this is lycra.. Most designers don't user that much lycra. Sometimes bodice is made of lycra, but I rarely see it user on skirts. This one is probably dance crepe...

You can see skirts made of Chiffon or stretch satin... Angel Skin looks really light and flowy (Chrisanne fabric)..
