hello, i am pretty young and i am often very embarassed when it comes to fast dances. i cant dance at all, although i am good at slow dancing. can you PLEASE teach me just how to do a simple dance that i can use at our dances? i have lots of time to learn but i am DESPRATE! thank you! :D

Welcome to DF! A basic tip - do what you are doing to the slow songs, just take much smaller steps. The faster the song, the more in place your steps/movements are.

Oh, and practise!

Goodluck :D

thats just the thing, i cant do anything fast pace! the people at our school just kindof sway their hips and stuff, but when i do it it looks bad im sorry im so stubborn i hate being embarassed though!

Welcome to df CANTDANCE4. Often when you feel uncomfortable doing something it looks bad. I would just practice at home without looking at yourself, until you feel comfortable. Then check yourself out.

Cantdance4 - at the risk of repeating myself, here is something another member posted which is quite relevant for you, and others who want a "quick fix" (and I couldn't have put it better myself  :

Dancing (at least grinding/ prom dancing) is like kissing, you can't really verbally explain how to do it. Watch other people who are dancing well, try to imitate them. Learn the cha-cha! :D

Except, instead of learning the cha cha cha, I would say, learn to salsa

Anything worth learning/doing well, is worth spending/investing the time. :D

Maybe it's just me, but I don't think you have much to worry about.

90% of the people at the clubs/highschool dances can't do much more than sway back and force to the rhythm and maybe do some random arm movements anyways. Some can't even maintain the rhythm. I've always been curious if they get bored of doing the same thing for an hour or two straight though. Almost feel like interrupting their dance and saying "salsa buddy", then walking away.

If you just want to blend in (please aspire to more), just follow the rhythm with your knees... double up on each side before shifting your weight if you have some fast music (typical club music). You might run into trouble if you dance with someone (not partnered, but just with them) for an extended period of time. It'll probably feel awkward doing the same thing over and over again ad nauseum, so just toss in some random arm movement or something so it doesn't seem totally bland.

Anyways, try practicing at home. Get some music blaring, close your eyes and once you get to the point where the music consumes you, it won't feel awkward or embarassing anymore.
