Need to vent, this board kills me...

How many of you write up a fairly long well composed post, which contains many thought and theories that you are just kind of letting flow in no particular order and then the board loses it?

I just tried to make a 3 paragraph post in the Swing section, containing absolutely no URL's, I'm certain of it, and I hit submit new thread and it gave me the URL error.

My entire post was lost.... can't go back or go back then forward, nothing - gone. I don't think I can imagine too many things more irritating at this particular moment. (All motivation to rewrite my questions has been lost.)

Sigh....

Now let's see if this posts.

Hey dude. Sorry about that. And, since you're relatively new to DF, you probably don't understand why that policy's in place. The truth is that, until recently, it wasn't. And we were bombarded with incredible amounts of spam, almost on a daily basis. We tried all sorts of things -- niceness, cajoling, sacasm, threats -- you name it, to get people to stop posting ads here, on what is intended to be a non-commercial site.

Finally, just a few weeks ago, we decided to block urls from people with fewer than a certain number of posts. We looked at the MO of spammers, and found that most of them came in as brand new members, spewed their spam, and left. So filtering by number of posts made sense, to us. Yeah. Unfortunately, some innocent folks probably do get grouped with the bad guys. But I honestly don't know how that could be avoided, without freely allowing spammers to drive by and dump their ads. *shrug*

So? Sorry. You're almost at the limit. :) I hope you stick around and continue participating in DF. Honest.

And, that said, when you get a chance, take a look at the DF guidelines.

You and I are supposed to be having this conversation via PM, not public post. That's another one of those inexplicable rules with darn good historical reasons that probably make no sense to you.

If you want to vent or ask questions, please PM a moderator. :)

MAJ28, I've had similar experiences in the past, though due to technical problems that caused me to lose my connection with the server (mainly on some other forums, not so much this one) and resulting in the loss of my carefully-crafted post.

I rarely compose my posts on-line, but rather write it off-line and then copy-and-paste it into the message editor to post it. I learned that approach during the glory days of CompuServe when everything was dial-up and they charged you by the minute for connection time. An alternative approach I'll take is to compose on-line, but then highlight the text of the message and copy it to the clipboard before I submit. However, even though my connection to DF's old server could prove a bit flaky at times, I have since been lulled into a sense of security and I haven't been following my own guidelines that much anymore.
