Need your help to choose new shoes!

Hi! Since I’m not a pro, I don’t have a lot of experience with shoes so I would like to ask for your help :). My current shoes worn out so it’s time for a new pair. I’ve been dancing in RR Drizzle 2.5” and I'm thinking Internationals. Also I’d like to make change in heels, to try higher heel like 3” or slim instead of flared or maybe both. So those are my questions:
  1. What you can say about International brand in general and what are the differences between RR and International?
  2. Is there a big difference between 2.5” and 3”?
  3. What are the advantages of slim heels? I noticed almost all pros wear them for competitions.

Hi leva-

I have tried the latin shoes for Ray Rose briefly and I have worn International Dance shoes quite a bit. My main reason for choosing International was that they had a style ( the Lorraine) that actually worked well for my feet. As far as I can tell they are similar although many people feel that Ray Rose has superior balance, this was not my experience.
My experience in going from 2.5 to 3 was in standard shoes. I found that after 1 or 2 practices I was okay with it and it wasn't a big deal. I have a tall partner so it worked :)
I tried both the slim and the IDS heel in International. I think its mostly aesthetic and personal preference as I didn't find the balance to be all that different. Some say that a slim heel puts you more forward over the ball of the foot whereas the thicker heels places your weight more back over your heels. But I think this is all relative to experience.

My experience with heel height was the opposite - I found my balance and control improved tremendously when I went from 3" to 2.5" for latin - I also found the lower heel to be easier on my feet - but everyone is different

  1. I haven't worn internationals for years, but for me they were; stiffer and less comfortable, less well balanced, and because they did not have a centered heel, put more pressure on the ball of my foot.
  2. Yes, there is a difference between 2.5" and 3.0" heels.
  3. In my opinion slim heels look better on the foot, but depending on which brand of shoe you buy, they may be more difficult to balance in.

I know there is a difference but would it be very hard to adapt? And do you know if it's possible to get RR with slim heels?

Sorry to be late in replying to this Ieva, I had a couple of comps to attend and am now just making it back.

Is it hard to adapt? It's easier going down in height then up, and depending on your dance skills (and your foot structure) it may be harder or easier to adapt.

And yes, RR does have slim heels. I wear them. I will caution you that RR slims are really slim. The surface of the heel is pretty tiny, much smaller then the Aida slim heel.
