Interactive ballroom dance lesson app launches on the iPhone
Ballroom Dance Channel, an online and mobile destination for ballroom dancing lessons, has released an iPhone application that teaches users how to ballroom dance. It features names from shows like Dancing with the Stars and So You Think You Can Dance, teaching the basic steps of the most popular dances.
Interesting concept. It's probably nice to be able to use such a small handheld device, rather than trying to use videos that are stuck in one position so you have to look over your shoulder to see it for parts of the step.

I think it's really more of a software features problem than a hardware one - handhelds with video capability and "netbook" mini laptops have been available for a while now.

yes, but we'll all probably get it anyway - it means we can dance in one more place :D (you know when you are addicted etc)

Teaching a class? Blank on where the guy steps on count X? Go and "change the music" (peek at the ipod).

Definitely a market.

Nah, you already have your ipod for music, so that you can dance anywhere with a floor - what do you need that app for? My view is that it will just serve to create more bad habits.

from LA Times. There is also a review.

BDC will soon be waltzing its way into a school near us: About 235 students of Kenter Canyon Charter Elementary School in Los Angeles will learn the basics of ballroom dancing starting Feb. 10, Principal Terry Moren said. The details are still being finalized, but BDC lessons are to be integrated into the school's extensive creative arts programs, among orchestra, vocal music and visual arts

we use to have it in school when I grew up but now nothing. Unless a parent is offering their services for free.

Something I would like to do when I am not working anymore bring dance to young ones :-)

I think that the BDC app is good, but lately i've been using videos off of video jug to watch for steps. Apparently you can download them on your Ipod which makes my life a whole lot more . ^^
