New developments, trends over the last decade?

During the pandemic, I heard about many underground living room and garage milongas. Now I was invited by the organizer of a former living room milonga to a private milonga in the hall of a large dance school. Admission by personal invitation only, no public ad.
Is it a new trend, does tango benefit from a third space?

Those are two questions. I have no idea if this is a trend, although we'd need a lot more information to determine that. Here, there weren't many underground events. There were some during the pandemic when all the milongas were closed (one outside event and at least one another at a regular venue that continued to hold events). If there were private events at people's home, I know nothing about them.

Whether tango benefits from such things is another matter. Personally, I prefer advertised, public events at local venues.

Retreating from the public eye, of course, comes at the cost of losing influence and relevance.

Not to mention the development of cliques and exclusivity.

No, it (AT) doesn't have to benefit; that's just the answer to the question posed.

My opinion is that it matters not one jot. If it's 'hidden' it's irrelevant and has no influence, but then we do get those who appear to have learned (?) their dance at such events/venues who then cause disruption by trying to get others to 'conform'. I'm certainly not looking to recreate a past era. I'm all for evolution, but tend more towards Google's old, abandoned, conduct rule: Don't be evil.

Kicking off the year and taking our meeting to a new space! And not to just any space... from January 2023 the Parakultural Milonga will take place every * Tuesday and Friday, from 22:30 hs, in the mythical Marabú Salón, in Maipú 365 *, a historic place in Buenos Aires that received us with open arms.

Such sad news that Salon Canning will be no more, but glad to hear that Parakultural had found a new home – and of all the venues it could move to, Marabú is certainly a great one.

I was quite chocked when someone mentioned about the closing. It was a surprise that Canning had such a strong value for my tango. Good to know that the milonga is continuing.

Yes, I've only danced there five times, but have such wonderful memories. I will really miss it.
