New Schedule This Year at Ohio Star Ball

I was just noticing that they have a different schedule this year at Ohio Star Ball, namely Pro Rhythm and Pro Standard are Friday night, and Pro Smooth and Pro Latin are Saturday night. In the past, all four of the main disciplines danced their earlier rounds on Friday, and the semi-final and final on Saturday. But then last year, instead of just having the international divisions finalists do showdances, they had the American style finalists do them too. Between that and other things that had to be done for TV, the night wound up being SUPER long.

What does everyone think about this new arrangement?

I personally really like that they are doing something so there won't be people competing at 1 or 2 AM, but I'm a little bummed that we won't get to see the finals of all four styles in one night. If you are going to break them up, though, it makes sense to do rhythm/standard one night and smooth/latin the other, so that 9- and 10-dancers don't wind up exhausted.

Still only have my hotel. Need to purchase airfare and tickets already!

One of the reasons may be that this year, AFAIK, they plan on producing a 5-hour tv program, instead of 2 hours as they did last year. I forget where I read those details. The plan is, they will cover all four styles in depth, plus background interviews and "behind the scenes" coverage during the entire event.

as someone who paid a buttload of money to be there all week but who danced at the crack of dawn last year...I am ELATED....I was postively exhausted by the pro shows and taping...I literally slept in my chair while we went through Marilu's 5th attempt at an opening take...I was too tired to clap like I meant it...I had one gin and tonic and went back to my room...it was agony...so I am THRILLED

I wish they would have done that last year. I really wish they would have filmed the awesome Theater Arts champions' routine for the tv show because I was telling my friends who didn't get to go about it and would have loved for them to have seen it.

I already have my hotel, and tickets for Friday night, all day Saturday, Saturday night and Sunday. Counting the days.

I don't really remember. The evening session is held in a huuuuuge hall, and it's hard to think of it selling out, though of course that could happen. The problem is, if you wait till the event itself, you will get seats up in the rafters, so to speak. The earlier you get your tickets, the closer to the actual dancing you will be.
