Hey Everyone, I'm 21 and in the Baltimore, MD area. I've never took up dancing, but Tango looks wonderful. My first time watching it was Scent of a woman, but I've recently started watching Roberto Herrera on youtube and hes exciting to watch honestly. There's a Tango on Saturday and im really looking forward to it. I may be somewhat nervous, since i don't know how to dance. But you got to start somewhere. :P

Welcome onboard.
What you will see on Saturday will most probably be very different from Scent of a Woman or the Youtubes of Herrera.

Thank you :) Im ok with anything to be honest. Tango just seems really sensual and my kind of dance. Plus I'm a beginner, so as i practice more I can see whats out there.

Go to the 18th st lounge milonga on Tuesday nights. They have a young crowd. I hope you find a good teacher. I've had bad experiences with teachers in the DC/Baltimore area (who are still alive). But you learn tango from dancing, so the most important thing going out to milongas! Have fun.

I lived in Washington, DC for many years and happy I moved to New York, where I find the tango better. I found Baltimore and the Washington, DC metropolitan area to be primarily open instead of close embrace.

You preference will have a lot to do if you enjoy tango.

I understand the bad experiences with teachers in the Washington metropolitan area. Fortunately, mine wasn't one of them. You'll find that after dancers take lessons for a while, they anoint themselves teachers.

I have two follow friends in the Baltimore area. If you'd like me to get you in touch with them, send me a message!

Welcome to the dance, and have fun! Definitely get into some lessons, and dance as often as you can. Observe when you're not dancing so you can learn some things by watching. Scent of a Woman was a fun movie but that was a poor imitation of tango.

Thanks a lot, a young crowd is desired but not the be all end all. One of the biggest reason im doing this is to expand my social pallate anyway

That scene has inspired so many people to take up tango, including those I know who have become truly good dancers, of real tango, no imitations... so that movie probably got something right. ;)
Haha I like this post! That scene truly inspires me to learn the real thing, so i think its good to. I love the movie, its one of my favorites.

An argentine teacher of mine told us the Al Pacino guy can't dance, but he can play. Another actor whom I like for this kind of play in a dance scene is Delon in the Leopard, he has a talent for dancing badly.

I am sure that he attracted more people to dance Argentine tango than many qualified teachers. :P

An actor who can dance tango is Robert Duvall. 8-)
