Nothing to see here....

....except another dark video clip.

Nevertheless, since several of you have posted clips of yourselves, I feel like I'm obligated to share one involving me dancing Salsa in my cowboy boots. (They're actually very comfortable for dancing!) You'll need an updated version of the Shockwave (or Macromedia) Flash media player to view it.

As might be expected though, it's under club lighting, so the ability to see my partner and me (and my boots) varies throughout the clip. It's only about a minute long, but at least it's "something." I think the clip itself was taken back in the fall of 2005, and the guy running the blog just decided to post it last week:

By the way, I've already cringed at some aspects of my dancing in the clip (especially the posture issues that tend to get worse when I'm dancing with a partner much shorter than I am), but I figured I would allow myself to be embarrassed and post the link to put a "face" to a username. I'm usually proud of staying on beat and I thought I generally helped my partner to look good for this dance; plus I'm glad I caught a few musical accents since I had never heard the song before -- although one of my favorite moves was hidden by darkness! :p

Hopefully a better clip of me really catching the groove and looking like Frankie Martinez will appear sometime in the future....as soon as scientists invent a way to record my dreams....;)

What a great clip! I like it !

Nice to see what you look like, nice to see how you dance. I had a few ideas about you as a person (a very nice person) but a few of them where wrong :)(your alias for example made me think of you as a really BIG man - you are tall).

I hope I dare to become public sonme day.

I guess it mjust be "Michael is having a birthday party!" - them embedded mobvie. Wait a few seconds after loading the page and the click on play.

Cool clip. I especially like the spin you do in the first half... Very smooth, and your body is very nicely straight.

Unfortunately I seem to develop a slight backwards lean when I spin. I'm balanced... at least... enough to do 2 or 3 spins in a 4 beat count... but it looks nowhere near as nice as yours did in that vid.

Thanks for posting the clip Big10--keep up the good work!

It's always hard dancing with a shorter person (I would think doubly so if it's the man who is shorter), but you handled the height difference nicely...!

Well, since I haven't ever danced with anybody taller than I am, I've had to learn to make all the adjustments necessary for a shorter partner -- or else I wouldn't get to dance at all! ;)

I'm a little under 6'2" normally, and a solid 6'3" when I decide to wear my boots. My partner in that clip is around 5'3" and she was wearing her flats at the time. I know that I do many more open-position moves when the height difference is that much, but I was kind of surprised that I didn't do any closed hold basics throughout that clip.

Anyway, thanks for some of the nice comments a few of you have made. I was a bit cautious before posting (since I first saw the clip over a week ago), because I know that in some ways it will probably define me on this forum, even though it is just one minute out of the thousands (literally) that I've danced in the past few years. Of course, the "regulars" in Houston know who I am anyway, so I figured -- what the heck?

It's a nice clip, I certainly like it.

I guess there's a certain apprehension when you lose your "anonymity" and put yourself out there, but I'm glad you did. It's a shame that folks can be so judgmental that it can make others shy about sharing - whether that be a dance clip, a photo, etc.

The problem for me is that i want to keep my anonymity. I can manage what I will write in the future here at SF. But what have I already written? Is there anything I don't want my friends to know? Any intimidating?

Whenever I get a movie with me "unrecognizable" I will post it

well well, nothing to see huh :p
yeah I think the videographer did a decent job, some nice contrasts with your white shirt.
i'll try to remember to wear white next time I tape myself in a club ;)

lol you guys are silly. it's true taping might make one nervous when dancing (I certainly relate!!) but posting clips isn't such a big deal, so no need to post dark clips on purpose lol

fears about judgmentalism:

i share them. but i recognize they are about *me*, not a commentary on the forum. this place is, for social dancers particularly, overwhelmingly supportive.
