Ohio Star Ball Friday pro/am - conflicts

So.... I looked at the tentative schedule for 2018, and it has Youth pro/am latin on the same day as Adult open rhythm and smooth. Does anyone have an idea on how those overlap? Unfortunately, there is one pro who does my rhythm, another dancer's smooth, and another dancer's Youth Latin! i feel like this would not be a situation I could even have him consider. I would say go check out the schedule but it looks like their website has some IT issues.

Yeah, looks like they have a bad link to the schedule PDF (or it's not there).

Sounds like your pro is gonna have a lot of running to do. ;)

Has anyone had a pro with this kind of issue? it's not just running between ballrooms and a long day, but it seems like the multis could be run almost at the same time...

Yes. I was wondering if OSB offered AT as a choice, and it does, as a smooth dance. I've been toying around with it in the back of my mind, kind of a bucket list kind of thing, but I'm still not sure how this work look.

Rhythm and Smooth are happening in the same room, so that won't be a problem, those events aren't simultaneous. But Latin could be... Your pro may want to check. They will probably make an effort to make sure your pro doesn't have to be at two places at the same time but he should contact them, and be prepared for a bit of a jog if scheduling is tight. They are usually pretty good at making announcements, and shuffling schedule a bit when dancers have to jump between rooms.

Edited to add, note that it's only smooth and rhythm OPEN bronze and silver single dances, and scholarship events that will be on Friday. Closed single dances and championships are on different days.

Thanks for the info!! I appreciate it so much. I would probably only compete in opens.

If you’re actually an open dancer, then your competitions aren’t on Friday. It would be earlier in the week- dancesport series open level.

I did the open silver champs last year- it was the first time they were done. It was kind of a joke really. Not the main ballroom, a handful of people etc. it’s not the main competition by a long shot. Going to Ohio and only doing that Friday in my mind is a waste.

Really! So hard to discern from the printed schedule. I thought the scholarships would be the big ones. It was a bit odd to see they were scheduled for the ballroom where they had the collegiate competition. So glad I have this forum!

Yep- open rhythm Wednesday night and open smooth singles Thursday day and multis Thursday night.

And the dancesport championships are the scholarships. Toughest comp in the country and so so fun to be a part of- the energy is awesome!

@rels77 thank you so much for the information! i have a meeting next week with my pro/studio, so it's good to know this. It sounds like there wouldn't be as much overlap as i thought!

Like rels said, if you're an open level dancer, you don't want the Friday events. Your events are Thursday. It is indeed very few people who dance the open bronze and open silver events (which is a really nebulous and mixed category of dancers). I'm not sure why more people don't dance open syllabus events, since everyone seems to love complaining about the closed syllabus rules...

I LOVE THIS FORUM SO MUCH. Thank you all for the help and information!! why do they make these schedules like stereo instructions? I just want to be informed! are the single dance heats that are on tuesday- thursday for rhythm and smooth just closed syllabus, or open too?
