Ohio Star Ball Hotels--heads up

I think this must be one of those years when the Ohio-Michigan game is in Columbus. I decided to book my OSB hotel room now. The following are not available (at least not for the 20th-23rd, which is Th, Fri, Sat nights.)

-Crowne Plaza
-Drury Inn
-Red Roof Inn
-The Lofts

I wound up going with Hampton Inn. Interestingly, when I tried to book it through Hampton Inn's website, it told me the best rate was $299. (!--For a Hampton Inn in Columbus? Puh-lease!) Expedia offered me $185. I found another site that offered $175, but it wasn't one I'd done business before and I decided for only a $10 difference, I'd stick with what I know.

Just thought others might want the heads up. (Oh, and if you find better options, post them here!)

Oh yeah, I forgot about that -- the Ohio-Michigan game is in Columbus in even years. If you go in an odd year, you can find rooms quite easily even as late as September.

Be careful of the VIEW you are looking at, i.e. the My Preferences view for me also ONLY showed the $299 rooms. Click on the 'ALL Rate Types' view and there are still non-smoking and smoking rooms for $145 and $155 respectively.

Times like this I'm glad I just book through my studio...roomies are going to be other students, anyway, and it does make paying for everything easier.

I keep telling my Mom (UM alumna, undergrad LSA and grad school of dentistry, so she was wearing maize and blue for many, many years) that I need to get a U-M jacket to wear around Columbus as my warm-ups. She said "Fine, so long as you don't step outside the ballroom in it." I think it would be fun...besides, I could blend in with the visiting fans.

Make sure to call the hotels and ask for a room at the OHIO STAR BALL rate. We just booked a room at the Crowne Plaza. I think maybe they block off the rooms so you can't get to them online? Not sure. Anyway, we just booked these on 7/27, so there are/were rooms available.
