Anyone going to Ohio Starball?

It's one of the few interesting things that happen where I live!
I will personnaly be competing at the collegiate competition that happens at the same time, next door to the championship. The collegiate competitors can also watch the championships saturday night for free.
I foud an amercian bronze dancer to compete with (on ballroom dancers.com) but my international dance partner is not ready yet!
If anyone here is interested and less than 35 (no need to be in college) I am a bronze/border line silver competitor in international.

Actually for Ohio Star Ball, you might want to double check on the not needing to be in college thing because I know last year in order to compete in the collegiate part, you HAD to be in college. This is because it is the national collegiate dancesport championships.

I am definetly going- its my favorite comp but I am competiting pro/am.

I think I'm going to go and dance Pro/Am. My schedule is kind of up in the air right now, but if I can make it I want to go!

well, I'm in college (grad school) and my partner last year wasn't. He still had the right to compete with me. I can check though.

Actually come to think of it I believe it was 2 years ago when I wasnt able to compete. But it could be that if you are college age you may be able to compete even if you arent in college. I was 13 at the time so that might be why. (people get upset when they get thier butt kicked by someone 1/2 their age  )

I will also try to find out for you. I will just ask Sam if I get a chance to.

A few of us thought it'd be cool to fly over for the OSB. But its too expensive for us to manage. :(

Its definetly worth it if you can come. I have never been to a competition thats even comparable to OSB.

I'll be there as a spectator only. Maybe in a few years I'll be ready for this level of competition.

It's nice to hear that about something that happens in my downtown!
Just for clarification, consurrent with OSB there's a collegiate competition goign on. Sam Sodano organizes OSB but he also hosts the collegiate competition going on at the same time (adjacent buidling), which is a different event.

so, is a dance-forums meeting planned for then ? :)

I'm thinking about making this my first Pro/Am comp. After a year without an amateur partner I really need to get back on the floor.

I was browsing the website this morning and couldn't find any pricing info for the Pro/Am events. Maybe I'm not looking in the rights places, was anyone else able to find this info of the website?

I'll check. But I wouldn't be surprised if Pro/Am prices are not posted. A lot of comps withhold Pro/Am pricing information as a courtesy to pros, who get a wholesalers package and who add a mark-up before promoting the comp to their students.

Ask your coach. The promotional info has probably been sent out to pros by now.

I checked the web site, and I couldn't find pro/am cost info either (unless I just don't know where to look. )

It's just not there. You have to contact the organizer for registration information.

One of the ladies in my studio has competed pro/am for the past 2 years at Ohio Star Ball. From talking with her, I got the impression this competition was kind of pricey.
